MCW to offer free screening of documentary
Martin County West FFA and social services department have partnered together to bring a showing of the documentary “My Ascension,” to MCW 6-12 grade students on Friday, Feb. 24. My Ascension is a documentary about sixteen-year-old Emma Benoit’s attempted suicide, how she survived and how it propelled her on a mission to use her experience to help others find hope and stay alive. The film also highlights the stories of two other young people who, tragically, did not survive their attempts and the devastating effects suicide can have on families and communities. This event is free and the community is welcome to attend a free showing at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Sherburn Theatre. Due to the film’s subject matter, it is recommended that children under the age of 10 do not participate unless their parents have seen the film previously and are okay with their child viewing the content. Permission forms will be sent to students in grades 6-8. The hope is that the film and any discussion afterwards will help bring awareness to students, staff, and families, and support mental health in our community.
