B.E. Area to host back-to-school events

Blue Earth Area High School will hold an open house for students (grades 8-12) and parents on Aug. 28. This event will give students and parents an opportunity to complete paperwork, pick up student schedules and Chromebooks, be introduced to high school staff and check out their lockers. (Eighth-graders will not receive Chromebooks until the beginning of school). Attendance is strongly recommended. All paperwork needs to be completed before students receive their Chromebooks and schedule. The cost of insurance for Chromebooks is $15 for each student and may be paid on the school’s web store. Those attending should meet in the Performing Arts Center according to the following schedule: 6 p.m.: Last name A-G; 7 p.m.: last name H-N; and 8 p.m.: last name O-Z. School for all students in grades 8-12 starts Sept. 3. The school day begins 8:20 a.m. Classes for K-7 will start Sept. 5.

Red Cross blood drive to be held

There will be a blood donation opportunity this week in our area. The Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 1:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday at Salem Lutheran Church located at 109 3rd St. SE in Madelia. The American Red Cross urges eligible donors to make a resolution to give blood to help ensure a stable and diverse blood supply as donations historically decline throughout the late summer months. Blood donors of all types are needed, especially those with AB negative, O negative, A negative and B negative. To learn more or make an appointment to give blood, call (800) 733-2767 or visit redcrossblood.org.
