Area roundup: Four Red Bulls earn top three finishes

BLUE EARTH – The Martin County Red Bulls took home a fifth-place team finish after competing in the Dick Maher Invitational last Saturday in Blue Earth. There were 10 total teams in the tournament.
Junior Pierce Rohman (145) took home first place after topping Waseca’s Jacob Knutson and Brady Murphy from Waterville-Elysian-Morristown/Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton.
After dropping his first-round matchup against Keegan O’Meara from Tri City United, sophomore Kaedin Lange (152) won four consecutive matches, including a final victory over Maple River/USC’s Jace Ignaszewski, to take home the third-place finish.
Freshman Aaron Becker (215) won matches over Max Fuller from Maple River/USC and Toren Kelley from Tri City United. Becker’s run ended in the championship to Goddhue’s Jack Carlson, giving him a second-place finish.
BOYS BASKETBALL
North Union 75, ELC 52
ESTHERVILLE – The North Union boys basketball team defeated Estherville Lincoln Central on Monday night, 75-52, after Khale Jones and Greyson Colegrove notched 20-plus point performances. Jones finished the night with 27 points on 64% shooting from the field. Colegrove chipped in 20 points of his own to go along with 10 rebounds. The Warriors have scored more than 60 points in each of their first three contests.
North Union (3-0) will travel to Forest City tonight with the game set to start at 7:45 p.m.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
North Union 51, ELC 13
ESTHERVILLE – The North Union girls basketball team remained undefeated after Monday night’s 51-13 win over Estherville Lincoln Central. While the team shot just 37% from the field, Ainsley Ulrich and Maisey Bierstedt led the team in scoring with 16 and 12 points, respectively. Defensively, the Warriors have held all three opponents they have faced to under 40 points to start the season.
North Union (3-0) will travel to Forest City tonight with the game set to start at 6 p.m.
