NEW ULM — The New Ulm Brewers took advantage of a two-hit, six-inning performance from Sam Keckeisen to win 6-0 over the Fairmont Martins in a seven-inning exhibition amateur baseball game Friday at Johnson Park.

Keckeisen delivered six strikeouts in the game to only one walk in his six innings. Tate Becker pitched one inning as well, striking out two with no hits and no walks.

At the plate for New Ulm, Cole Ranweiler had a double and a triple in the game, collecting three RBIs and two runs scored. Colten Schaefer and JT Hoffman each had two hits for the Brewers, while Andrew Peters had a hit and an RBI.

Josh Smith took the loss for Fairmont, striking out six and allowing six runs on nine hits in six innings. Luke Becker and Nolyn Goerndt had the only hits for Fairmont.

The Brewers got it going right away in the first inning, with Schaefer and Hoffmann both singling to lead off the inning and Ranweiler scoring both on a double. Ranweiler took third on a ground out, then came home on a sacrifice fly from Ayden Jensen.

Goerndt got his single in the bottom of the inning and made it to second on an error put into play by Vincent Schultz, but a flyout ended the inning.

New Ulm got two more runs in the third inning as a single by Hoffmann was capitalized on by a triple from Ranweiler. Ranweiler scored on a ground out put into play by Wade French. New Ulm added one extra run in the fourth inning as Trevor Nissen tripled to deep center field, then came home on a groundout put into play by Peters.

The Fairmont defense tightened up in the final three innings, and the Martins got another runner into scoring position as Nick Sandberg reached on an error and advanced to second on Becker’s single in the fifth. However, a groundout ended the inning, and the Martins did not get another runner on base for the rest of the game.

New Ulm (17-3) are riding a 12-game winning streak and will play another non-league game against Delano on Sunday. Fairmont (9-3) plays at Blue Earth on Wednesday.

Starting at $2.99/week.
