45th annual summer run around the bend

FAIRMONT – The Fairmont Community Education and Recreations 45th annual Summer Run is quickly approaching and is expecting a stacked field of runners to take part.

As in years past, the races will start and end at the Fairmont High School track on July 27, It will feature four different races: a five-mile run, two-mile run, ¼-mile run/walk and a ½-mile run/walk. The races are starting at 8:30 am, 9:30 am, 10 am, 10:05 am, with registration closing 10 minutes prior to the start of each race.

The run has turned into not only an annual event but a generational event. In addition to the runners that run each year, it has become a family affair with grandparents, parents and children taking part in the event with some returning to Fairmont exclusively for the run.

“There are some families where the grandparents participate, their children, and then their grandchildren all run varying levels,” CER director Stephanie Busiahn said. “The kiddos, obviously, at the quarter or the half. Grandparents, a lot of times, the two-mile or the five, and then the parents, the two or five. But really just making kind of a day of it. A lot of them will come back. Those that have moved away or whatever will kind of make a weekend out of it and come back to participate in that.”
