Fairmont boys take 6th at True Team State Championships

STILLWATER — The Fairmont boys track and field team placed sixth out of 12 teams at this past Saturday’s Class AA True Team State Track and Field Championships at Stillwater High School.

Fairmont finished with 448 points, while Stewartville won the meet with 558 points.

Jeremiah Lebbi took fifth in the 100 for Fairmont with a time of 11.23, while teammate Nolan Schultze took fifth in the 400 (52.81). Fairmont also saw Gavin Artner turn in a time of 4:35 in the 1,600, good enough for third place. In the 300 hurdles, Fairmont’s Jaron Schutz took sixth (43.08).

The Cardinals’ 4×100 relay team of Elijah Johnson, Allon Chen, Jeremiah Lebbi and Blaze Geiger took fourth (44.92), while Fairmont’s 4×400 team of Connor Gronewald, Jaydon Putney, Geiger and Schultze took second (3:31.07) and its 4×800 team of Putney, Isaac Sheard, Ty Nawrocki and Brier Lenort took fourth (8:36.17). The 4×100 team now has the third-best time in school history.

In the high jump, Fairmont’s Tytan Tumbleson tied for fifth (5-10), while teammates Gage Borntrager took sixth in the pole vault (12-0) and Oliver Tordsen took sixth in the discus (144-4).

Fairmont’s Nelson Remington took first in the 100 wheelchair (16.57, PR), first in the 800 wheelchair (2:05.59) and first in the 1,600 wheelchair (J4:24.73, PR).

The Big South Conference Championship is scheduled to be hosted by Fairmont on Tuesday, pending weather.
