Fairmont club hockey teams pile up victories

FAIRMONT — Alexis Haycraft netted two goals, while teammates Mariel Parish and Lauren Bettin each contributed one goal and one assist to engineer the Fairmont 15U girls hockey team’s 5-1 victory over Chaska/Chanhassen during ice action Dec. 30.

Joslyn Meyer contributed a goal to Fairmont’s winning ways at Martin County Arena, while netminder Alexis Sundeen made 14 saves to earn the win between the pipes.

The Cannon River Royals’ A-squad doubled Fairmont by a 4-2 decision on Dec. 18 in Faribault.

Meyer delivered both of Fairmont’s goals, while Halyn Haycraft and Parish doled out one assist apiece in the loss.

Sundeen recorded 21 saves between the pipes for Fairmont, which tallied 18 shots on net.

The Fairmont 15U girls hockey team (11-5-1) opens the Faribault Tournament against Mora/Pine City at 8 p.m. Friday night.

Fairmont then faces Woodbury Gold at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in tournament action before returning to Parise Rink in Faribault on Sunday.

Squirt ‘A’

The Fairmont Squirt ‘A’ hockey team compiled a 1-2 record during the final two days of 2023 on the road.

Fairmont split a pair of games on Dec. 31 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, defeating host Orange by an 8-5 decision before losing a 9-1 game to Sioux Falls Blue.

Levi Anderson scored a game-best four goals to guide Fairmont to the three-goal win over Sioux Falls Orange.

Cheston Aust contributed two goals to Fairmont’s win, while Hudson Swenson and Abel Thompson chipped in one goal each.

Goaltender Jameson Werre made seven stops between the pipes to earn the win for Fairmont.

Werre made the transition to offense and scored Fairmont’s lone goal in the loss to Blue.

Higgins Sukalski notched 19 saves in goal for Fairmont.

Waseca downed Fairmont, 12-5, during a game on Dec. 30 in Waseca.

Anderson contributed two goals for Fairmont, while Aust, Jojo Lopez and Colin Schultze supplied one net-finding shot apiece.

Sukalski turned away a game-best 36 shots on goal for Fairmont.

The Fairmont Squirt ‘A’ team plays host to Redwood Valley at 9 a.m. Saturday at Martin County Arena before facing Waseca at 6 p.m. Saturday night during Fairmont Hockey Day.

Bantam ‘B’

The Fairmont Carlson Dental Bantam ‘B’ hockey team generated three wins and a tie during a three-game span to close out December.

Preston Cepress netted the equalizer off a double-assist from Bryce Irhke and Hunter Thate to help Fairmont salvage a 4-all tie against New Ulm/Sleepy Eye on Dec. 29 at Martin County Arena in Fairmont.

Noah Meixell notched Carlson Dental’s initial goal, Preston Geerdes chipped in the second net-finding shot, while Geerdes set up Cepress’ initial lamplighter during the start of the third period.

Cepress erupted for four goals and three assists, while Geerdes netted a hat trick and doled out one helper to pace Fairmont’s 8-2 triumph over Sartell in its first of two games on Dec. 30 at Martin County Arena.

Meixell contributed one goal and one assist, Ihrke distributed three assists, while Blake Thompson, Hadyn Lillevold, Caleb Meyer and Thate each dished out one helper in the win.

Caden Wickert unleashed a game-best four goals to trigger Carlson Dental’s 8-1 win over Buffalo Purple on Game 2 of Dec. 30 in Fairmont.

Hunter Olson, Thate, Cepress and Meixell each contributed one goal and one assist to the victory, while Geerdes doled out one helper.

Kolton Hinz and Kaden Olson combined between the pipes to garner the win for Fairmont. Hinz stopped seven shots on goal, while Olson tallied nine saves.

Thate then produced the game-winning goal during the third period of Fairmont’s 4-3 decision over New Ulm/Sleepy Eye on Dec. 31 in New Ulm.

Geerdes netted two goals, Irhke chipped in a goal, while Wickert, Thompson and Cepress each distributed one assist.

Kaden Olson turned away 31 shots on net for the Fairmont Carlson Dental Bantams, which play host to Sauk Rapids at 10 a.m. Sunday at Martin County Arena.

10U Girls

Charlee Koenecke tallied two goals while Kenzley Tietje and Emersyn Ebeling contributed one net-finding shot each as the Fairmont 10U girls hockey team posted a 4-0 win over Sioux Falls on Dec. 31 in Sioux Falls, S.D.

The Fairmont 10U team plays host to Waseca at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Martin County Arena.

PeeWee ‘B’

The Fairmont PeeWee ‘B’ hockey lineup netted one win and one loss to close out the month of December.

Ryder Thate lit the lamp three times and doled out a game-leading five assists to power Fairmont to a 10-7 win over New Ulm/Sleepy Eye on Dec. 30 at the Civic Center in New Ulm.

Kane Wohlhuter produced two goals and two assists for Fairmont, while Bennett Draper supplied two goals and one helper.

Logan Droegemueller, Colton Schroeder and Carter Spitzer each notched one goal, while Luther Malo collected one assist for Fairmont.

Marshall downed Fairmont by a 7-4 decision earlier Dec. 30 in Marshall.

Wohlhuter tallied two goals, Thate collected one goal and one assist, Draper lit the lamp once, while Hogan Artz dished out one assist.
