Fairmont 12U girls hockey wins NUSE invite

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont 12U girls hockey team compiled a perfect 5-0 record to capture the New Ulm/Sleepy Eye Tournament championship last weekend in New Ulm.

Fairmont opened with a 6-0 win over the St. Paul Capitals last Friday, posted a 6-0 second-round shutout of Farmington before icing Detroit Lakes by a 7-1 decision last Saturday, and breezed to an 7-1 semifinal victory over Eagan and a 6-0 decision over host New Ulm/Sleepy Eye in the finals last Sunday.

Lauren Bettin netted two goals and Mariel Parish generated one goal and one assist to top Fairmont’s opening nine-goal win over the St. Paul Capitals.

Maya Earhart, Kylie Flanagan and Kennedy Murphy each supplied one goal for Fairmont, while Halyn Haycraft and Lexi Haycraft doled out one helper each.

Netminder Lexi Sundeen made nine saves for Fairmont, which tallied 41 shots on goal.

Sundeen posted a dozen saves and Parish erupted for a hat trick and one assist to propel Fairmont to a 6-0 second-round shutout of Farmington.

Halyn Haycraft supplied one goal and two assists, while Paige Hartwig and Kynlee Beemer contributed one goal to the winning decision.

Hayden Olson, Bettin and Flanagan each doled out one assist in the second-round victory.

Lexi Haycraft and Bettin each produced hat tricks to steer Fairmont to a 7-1 third-round win over Detroit Lakes. Lexi Haycraft also doled out two assists, while Bettin added one helper.

Parish contributed a goal to the effort, Murphy distributed one assist and Sundeen notched 12 stops to earn the win.

Lexi Haycraft and Parish netted two goals each to pace Fairmont’s 7-1 semifinal win over Eagan White. Lexi Haycraft also dished out one assist.

Halyn Haycraft generated one goal and three assists, Bettin tallied one goal and one helper, Murphy chipped in a goal, Avery Kurt doled out an assist and Sundeen recorded 13 saves.

Lexi Haycraft collected a hat trick and Sundeen made 15 saves to engineer Fairmont’s 6-0 victory over New Ulm/Sleepy Eye in the tournament’s championship game.

Bettin contributed one goal and two assists to the win, while Parish and Beemer chipped in one goal apiece.

Lexi Haycraft unleashed four goals and Halyn Haycraft blasted home two more to pace Fairmont’s 6-0 regular-season shutout over Albert Lea on Jan. 8.

Murphy and Parish each distributed two assists for Fairmont, while Hartwig and Bettin had one helper each.

Sundeen produced 11 saves to earn the shutout for Fairmont, which tallied 47 shots on goal.

Halyn Haycraft netted two goals to help Fairmont double up Redwood Falls, 4-2, during regular-season action Jan. 7.

Parish generated one goal and one assist, Bettin lit the lamp once, Lexi Haycraft doled out one assist and Sundeen notched 14 saves for the win.

The Fairmont 12U girls hockey team (22-3-1) plays host to Albert Lea at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Martin County Arena. Fairmont then travels to Sleepy Eye on Sunday for a 12:30 p.m. contest against New Ulm/Sleepy Eye.

The Fairmont U10 girls hockey squad produced a win and a tie during ice action last weekend.

Geminnie Lopez netted a hat trick to steer Fairmont to a 4-2 victory over Albert Lea on Jan. 7 at Martin County Arena.

Morgan Ruppert added an unassisted goal for Fairmont, while netminder Nola Hazard posted 28 saves to net the win.

Fairmont battled to a 3-all tie with Windom on Jan. 8.

Lopez produced one goal and one assist, while Ellie Steuer and Callie Parish chipped in one goal apiece. Hazard delivered 20 saves for Fairmont.

Lopez chalked up a hat trick and one assist to lift Fairmont to a 5-3 win over Austin on Dec. 10.

Logyn Luhmann and London Truesdell generated one goal each, Brooke Ruppert doled out two assists, while Hazard made 22 saves for Fairmont.

The Fairmont Bantams lost three games during last weekend’s tournament in New Richmond, Wis.

Northfield downed Fairmont in last Saturday’s opening round, 10-1. Noah Meixell scored Fairmont’s goal off a Gavin Kester assist, while netminder Kaden Olson made 42 saves.

Stillwater claimed an 8-1 second-round win over Fairmont last Saturday. Kester netted a goal off a Meixell assist, while goaltender Brandon Hector generated 32 stops.

Spring Lake Park edged Fairmont in third-round action, 2-1, last Sunday. Meixell converted Jase Meade’s pass into Fairmont’s lone goal, while Olson and Hector combined between the pipes for 38 saves.

The Fairmont Bantams (8-12) travel to Marshall on Saturday for an 11 a.m. face-off.
