FAIRMONT — Injuries have disseminated the Martin County wrestling lineup, but the reserves have successfully filled the gaps and then some to help maintain the Red Bulls’ unbeaten dual-meet mark.

Riley Cole posted a pair of momentum-shifting falls, Class AA No. 4-ranked 220-pounder Max Olson spent only 30 seconds on the Cardinal Gym canvas and No. 3-ranked 160-pounder Carver Rohman improved to 24-0 on the season to power the No. 8-ranked Red Bulls to a triangular sweep on Thursday night in Fairmont.

Cole’s pin of Lincoln Ourada in 2:55 during 138-pound action triggered the Red Bulls’ string of six consecutive falls to pull away to a 54-24 Big South victory over Redwood Valley.

With the Red Bulls trailing 14-7 on the team ledger in their second dual meet, Cole narrowed the gap with a fall in 1:22 at 138 pounds to swing the points pendulum back in Martin County’s direction en route to a 38-26 league win over New Ulm.

“Cole’s a senior who came back out for wrestling this year, and he’s given us a big lift,” said Red Bulls head coach Adam Williamson. “He went out and got us two pivotal pins tonight, while (sophomore) Ty Kolbe stepped into the lineup and produced a fall and a key one-point win.

“Those one-point wins, combined with timely pins, helped us beat a very solid New Ulm team. We definitely needed everybody’s efforts tonight.”

Maddex Faber netted a 5-0 winning decision over Alex Portner during 113-pound action to keep Martin County even early against New Ulm, but back-to-back pins by Elijah Rieser and Tegan Kral gave the Eagles a double-digit lead.

Berent Kosbab triggered the Red Bulls’ run of seven straight wins by compiling a 14-5 major decision over Dirk Haynes at 132 pounds before Cole earned the slap of the mat in 1:22 over New Ulm’s Spencer Drill at 138.

Aden Welcome, who improved to 20-2 on the season, kept the momentum going with a 6-1 win over Winsten Nienhaus at 145 before Red Bull teammate Taylor Austin improved to 17-4 by downing Jamisen Frederickson via a 19-8 major decision at 152.

Cooper Steuber generated a second-period escape to pace his hard-fought 1-0 win over Wyatt Pollard at 160 for Martin County before Kolbe squeezed out a 10-9 decision over Noah Engel at 170.

Carver Rohman then received a forfeit at 182 to extend the Red Bulls’ lead to 32-14 with only three matches remaining.

Max Olson put an exclamation mark on Martin County’s team triumph by needing just 18 seconds to flatten Ethan Lieb at 220 pounds.

Olson also capped the Red Bulls’ 30-point victory over Redwood Valley by requiring a mere 12 seconds to pin Andres Vetsouvahn in the light heavyweight clash.

At the opposite end of the scale, Pierce Rohman improved to 22-4 on the season by receiving a forfeit from Redwood Valley at 106 before Red Bull teammate seventh-grade phenom Kaedin Lange stepped into the lineup and earned a clutch fall in 1:52 over Ashton Panitzke at the 113 spot.

The Cardinals reeled off three wins to grab a 15-12 lead before Cole pinned Lincoln Ourada in 2:55 after building a 5-0 first-period margin at 138. Cole’s fall transformed a three-point deficit into a three-point advantage on the scoreboard.

Welcome assembled a 12-0 lead over Max Fuhr during 145-pound action before earning the slap of the mat in 5:40. Steuber then nearly duplicated his Red Bull teammates’ method to a pin by coasting to a 16-1 margin over Zac Guggisburg at 152 before pinning his Redwood Valley foe in 4:21.

Austin flattened Andrew Hernandez in 3 minutes exactly at 160 before Kolbe put Jamen Hennen’s shoulders to the canvas in 2:50 to net the fall at 170.

Carver Rohman required just 39 seconds to polish off Evan Reinke at 182 to widen Martin County’s team lead to 48-15.

The Red Bulls (9-0) compete in the Big South Conference individual meet at 10 a.m. Saturday in Pipestone.
