St. Peter girls tennis lineup posts 5-2 win over Fairmont
ST. PETER — The Fairmont Cardinal girls tennis team lost a 5-2 decision to the St. Peter Saints on Thursday in a Big South Conference contest in St. Peter.
Fairmont head coach Laura Olsen switched around her lineup, moving players into different positions.
Fairmont’s Emelia Klanderud, usually a doubles player, earned the Cardinals’ lone singles point by beating Kylie Southworth, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4 singles.
Fairmont’s Brynn Gustafson lost 6-0, 6-0 to Annika Southworth at No. 1 singles, while Fairmont’s Solveig Senf, usually playing doubles, lost 6-1, 6-0 to Amelia Hildebrandt at No. 2 singles.
The Cardinals’ Madi Peyman dropped a 6-0, 5-7, 6-0 score to Zetta Haugen at No. 3 singles.
In the three doubles matches, Fairmont was able to secure one point when the No. 3 squad of Paige Linse and Lilly Laven defeated Kali Erickson and Raina Roemhildt in two tight sets, 6-4, 7-5.
At No. 1 doubles, Fairmont’s Hope Klanderud and Anika Haugen lost in a close tilt, 6-4, 6-4, to Rhyan Holmgren and Madison Kamm.
Fairmont’s No. 2 doubles combination of Abi Peyman and Johanna Petschke dropped a 6-3, 7-6 (10-8) decision to Macy Weller and Nora Whipps to close out the dual meet.
Fairmont (11-7) travels to Redwood Falls next Thursday for a 4:30 p.m. Big South Conference battle against Redwood Valley.
St. Peter (13-0) squares off against host Litchfield, Annandale Schools and Crookston in a quadrangular invitational at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
