Quiring’s record 3s pace Fairmont girls basketball’s win over Worthington

WORTHINGTON — Rayah Quiring connected for a Fairmont girls basketball single-game record seven 3-pointers to power the Cardinals to a 69-53 triumph over the Worthington Trojans during Big South Conference basketball action Saturday night in Worthington.

Quiring, who finished with a game-best 23 points, drained five from behind the bonus arc during the first half to help guide Fairmont to a 42-31 lead by intermission.

The Cardinals made 12 of 27 shots from 3-point distance for 44 percent en route to a 26-for-56 overall shooting effort from the field.

Emma Gudahl sank three 3-pointers to fuel her 13-point performance for Fairmont, while teammate Cadee Becker neared double-double territory by scoring 17 points to complement pulling down a team-leading nine rebounds. Gudahl also pocketed a team-high four steals, while Quiring and Becker supplied three takeaways apiece.

Brittney Mosloski collected eight points and five rebounds while doling out five assists for Fairmont, while Maggy Totzke distributed a game-best six assists to complement five points and five boards.

Cassidy Schultz dished out three assists for the Cardinals, who produced their ninth consecutive victory.

Olivia Hayenga netted 19 points to top the Trojans, while teammate Ellie Weg chipped in 15 points.

Fairmont (19-2) plays host to St. Peter in a 7:30 p.m. conference game on Friday night at Cardinal Gym in Fairmont.

Worthington edged Fairmont, 38-35, during B-squad action Saturday night in Worthington.

Nevaeh Rahm topped the Cardinals (18-2) with 13 points and five rebounds, Abi Peyman tallied eight points, while Elayna Anderson supplied six points and five boards.

Kennedy Becker generated 16 points and four steals to help guide Fairmont to a 29-27 victory over Worthington during C-squad action Saturday night in Worthington.

Carys Gudahl delivered nine points and pocketed six steals for the Cardinals, while Norah Traetow pulled down five rebounds.

Boys Basketball

Luverne 62, Martin County West 56 — The Class 1A No. 3-ranked Mavericks rallied from a 15-point halftime deficit, but fell short to the Cardinals by just six points during nonconference action Saturday in Luverne.

Gannon Ahrendt delivered a game-best 26 points to pace Luverne, which helped ice its win by hitting 15 of 22 free throws on the game.

Tanner Sinn produced 21 points and hauled in seven rebounds to top MCW’s effort, while teammate Zach Anderson netted 18 points.

Mitchell Weber supplied 13 points and doled out five assists, while Cash Owens garnered four steals for the Mavericks.

MCW made 18 of 29 field goals from 2-point distance and 5 of 13 behind the 3-point arc.

Eli Radtke scored 17 points for the Cardinals, who connected on 19 of 29 attempts from 2-point range and 3 of 14 behind the bonus line.

Martin County West (17-2) plays host to Blue Earth Area at 7:15 p.m. tonight in Trimont in a nonconference contest.
