Cardinals girls hockey doubles up Trojans, 4-2

WORTHINGTON — Forward Bella Larson scored two first-period goals to help pace the Fairmont Area Cardinals’ 4-2 Big South Conference hockey victory over the Worthington Trojans on Thursday night.

Cardinals defender Alexis Newville also added a pair of goals in the win, scoring the second of the game along with the lone second-period goal to put the Cardinals ahead 4-1.

Cardinals defender Corene Moeller earned the assist on both of Larson’s goals for her first multi-point performance of the season.

Karissa Newville, Shaye Dietz and Macy Militello each distributed an assist in the game for the Cardinals.

Riley Nickel and Kessey Aljets netted one goal apiece for the Trojans.

Goaltender Hadley Artz took the win for the Cardinals with 19 saves on 21 shots, while Trojans goaltender Lila Newman made 11 stops on 15 chances.

Fairmont Area (7-11-2) closes out their regular season on the road in a nonconference game against Austin on Monday night.

Worthington (3-17) travels to Benson on Saturday to face Morris/Benson Area in a nonconference game.
