Cardinal hockey game tied at newspaper’s weather deadline

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont Area Cardinal girls hockey team’s season-opening face-off against the Albert Lea Tigers on Thursday night was tied at 1-all after two periods of ice action at Albert Lea City Arena.

Senior defender Mackenzie Householder accounted for Fairmont Area’s point via a short-handed goal.

Unfortunately, the nonconference game was still on the ice at the Fairmont Sentinel’s early deadline created by the winter storm warnings.

Complete details of the Cardinals’ first game will appear in Saturday’s sports section.

Fairmont Area plays host to Waseca in its Big South Conference opener at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Martin County Arena in Fairmont.
