Blue Earth Area spikes out victory over Loyola

BLUE EARTH — Hailey Becker cranked out a match-best 11 kills to pace a balanced Blue Earth Area hitting attack in steering the Bucs to a 25-9, 25-18, 19-25, 25-17 nonconference volleyball victory over the Mankato Loyola Crusaders on Thursday night in Blue Earth.

Becker also scored eight points, including four aces, behind 13-for-15 serving to go with three ace blocks.

Liz Beeler distributed a match-leading 26 set assists, scored a match-high 16 points on 21 of 23 serving and scooped up 14 digs for BEA.

Alicia Machacek hammered 10 kills for the Bucs, while Brita Hougen and Maci Frommie delivered eight spike-winners apiece.

Eloise Blair made nine digs, Taylor Klabunde tallied seven digs to complement nine points behind 11-for-15 serving, while Haley Kalis dished out seven set assists for the Bucs.

Kate Armon added nine digs for Blue Earth Area (2-21-1), which plays host to Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial on Tuesday night.

Mountain Lake/Comfrey 3, Martin Luther/GHEC/Truman 2 — The Wolverines outslugged the visiting Jaguars in a five-game marathon Thursday night during non-league action in Mountain Lake.

Ella Nagorske distributed nine set assists, smacked five kills and connected for five aces behind 16 of 17 serving to pace the Jaguars.

Johnnie Zaharia contributed five kills and 16 digs to the Jaguars’ performance, while Hayley Stensland doled out 17 set assists.

Mallery Geistfeld supplied nine kills and 16-for-16 serving for the Jaguars, while Kambria Steinhaus produced 15 digs and five aces on 16-for-16 serving.

The Jaguars play host to Fairmont on Tuesday night in Truman.
