Fairmont American Legion Post 36 baseball hammers out 16-3 victory
MINNESOTA LAKE — Eli Anderson scored a game-best four runs and drilled a three-run triple, while Zach Jorgensen belted two doubles and a sacrifice fly to generate three RBIs to power Fairmont Post 36 to a 16-3, six-inning victory over Minnesota Lake during American Legion baseball action Monday night.
Landen Meyerdirk went 3-for-3 with a double, drove in one run and crossed the plate twice, while Gavin Rodning went 2-for-5 with a triple and two runs scored for Fairmont.
Brendan Schmidtke contributed a 2-for-5 performance with one RBI to Post 36’s 16-hit effort, while Nate Soelter went 2-for-3 and crossed the plate three times.
Jack Kosbab drilled a two-run single, Lincoln Becker singled and knocked in two runs, while Aden Welcome rounded out the offensive outburst by supplying an RBI single.
Starting pitcher Jacob Crissinger allowed three runs — only one earned — on four hits in five innings of work to earn the victory for Fairmont. Crissinger demonstrated stellar command of his pitches by recording six strikeouts without issuing a walk.
Soelter allowed two hits and notched two strikeouts without issuing a walk in one shutout inning of relief for Post 36.
Soelter singled to lead off the game, Anderson walked and both runners scored on Jorgensen’s two-run double for a quick first-inning lead.
Meyerdirk then doubled in the top of the second and circled the bases on Becker’s RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0.
Schmidtke and Levi Pooley each delivered RBI singles during Fairmont’s five-run third at-bat, Becker chipped in an RBI groundout, while Anderson and Schmidtke scored on wild pitches.
Kosbab later drilled a two-run single to highlight Post 36’s two-run fifth frame before Fairmont erupted for six runs in the sixth to exit the Minnesota Lake ballpark early.
Rodning triggered the offensive outburst with a triple and scored on Welcome’s RBI single. Meyerdirk then connected for a run-scoring single, Becker reached on an error and Soelter walked.
Anderson then smacked a bases-clearing triple before crossing the plate on Jorgensen’s sacrifice fly.
Fairmont Post 36 (1-1) plays host to Wells at 6 p.m. next Monday night at Herb Wolf Field.
