FAIRMONT — The Fairmont girls basketball lineup held New Ulm to six first-half points, posted a 2-to-1 positive turnover ratio, distributed 17 assists and received 29 points from its reserves to close out the regular-season schedule with another win on Saturday.

Brittney Mosloski produced 11 points, a game-best five steals and five rebounds off the bench, Cadee Becker tallied 12 points and Bryn Miller tossed in 10 more to power the Cardinals to a 60-26 Big South Conference triumph over the Eagles.

Fairmont (12-5) tips off the Section 2AA, South Sub-Section quarterfinals by playing host to New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva at 7 p.m. Wednesday night in Fairmont.

“Good balance in our scoring again, and more than 15 assists for the second game in a row,” said Fairmont coach Sara Junkermeier, whose team doled out 20 assists in Friday night’s win over Redwood Valley.

In fact, six different Cardinals distributed assists during the first half in which the home team opened with a 17-0 offensive avalanche before adding a 10-0 run on the heels of the Eagles’ initial basket by Daviney Dreckman at the 10-minute juncture.

Faith Olson, Becker, Rayah Quiring, Madysen Allen, Maggy Totzke and Carissa Saxton each delivered set-up passes as Fairmont built a 27-2 lead with a minute left before halftime. Allen, Totzke and Emma Gudahl each nailed 3-pointers in the first segment, while Cassidy Schultz produced two of her five bench points by running a perfect give-and-go play with Totzke with 3 minutes to go before intermission.

Dreckman, who finished with a game-best 14 points on 6-for-8 field-goal shooting, delivered New Ulm’s final two 2-pointers of the first half at the 45- and 3-second marks, respectively.

The M&M low-post presence of Miller and Mosloski bookended the Cardinals’ 14-0 surge to open the second half en route to an insurmountable 43-8 lead with 11 minutes remaining.
