New Ulm hoopsters post win over Fairmont

NEW ULM — Charlie Osborne and James Osborne combined for seven 3-pointers and 36 points to propel the New Ulm Eagles to a 71-63 victory over the Fairmont Cardinals during Big South Conference basketball action Saturday night in New Ulm.

Charlie Osborne poured in a team-best 20 points behind three treys, while James Osborne sank four 3s to pace his 16-point performance. Josh Wenninger also tallied 16 points for the Eagles.

Zach Jorgensen erupted for a game-best 22 points and pulled down six rebounds for Fairmont, while Jacob Crissinger drilled four 3-pointers to pace his 18-point effort.

David Maakestad collected six points, pocketed three steals and distributed three assists for the Cardinals, Levi Pooley chipped in six points, Sawyer Tordsen garnered a team-best seven boards to complement five points, while Tanner Rosch added five rebounds and a team-high four assists.

The Cardinals made 25 of 50 field goals overall, including 6 of 17 from 3-point range, and just 7 of 14 free throws. The Eagles hit 24 of 56 shots from the floor, including 11 of 28 behind the arc, and 12 of 17 charity tosses.

Fairmont (6-7) plays host to Blue Earth Area at 7:15 p.m. tonight at Cardinal Gym.

New Ulm edged Fairmont in B-squad action, 51-49, Saturday night.

Levi Pooley netted 12 points to top the Cardinals, while Prince Lebbi tossed in seven points.

Sawyer Tordsen and Armando Hernandez added six points apiece for Fairmont.

Maple River 73, Truman/Martin Luther/ GHEC 32 — Will Sellers scorched the Mapleton nets for seven 3-pointers en route to a game-leading 23 points to power the Eagles to a 41-point non-league victory over the Jaguars on Saturday.

Zach Herrmann and Lucas Doering supplied 11 points apiece for Maple River (14-1), while Ethan Fischer chipped in nine points.

Adam Heckman delivered 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Jaguars, while Owen Wolter collected seven points and four assists.

The Jaguars (11-5) travel to Wells on Thursday night to face United South Central in a non-league game.

Girls Basketball

Martin County West 59, Nicollet/Loyola 48 — Rubi Reyes netted a game-high 17 points to help the Mavericks capture an 11-point Valley Conference victory over the Raiders on Saturday in Trimont.

Reyes connected on two 3-pointers to pace her 15-point second-half performance, while teammate Marissa Whitehead scored 11 of her 13 points during the opening 18 minutes.

Whitehead also pocketed six steals and distributed five assists.

Emily Anderson went 5 of 5 at the free throw line en route to a 12-point effort, Katie Lange chipped in six points and Thea Anderson added five points.

Hayley Selby scored 14 points to top the Raiders, while Brooklyn Bode tossed in 11 points.

Martin County West (11-4) plays host to Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton tonight in Trimont.

Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther 76, Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons 64 — Katelyn Diegnau generated 17 points and grabbed six rebounds to help steer the Jaguars to a 12-point Valley Conference win over the Knights on Saturday in Granada.

Eden Studer produced 13 points and six boards, while Emily Stauter scored 12 points for the Jaguars.

Mallery Geistfeld netted eight points and six rebounds, while Brooke Grathwohl and Michaelah Petrowiak each chipped in eight points for the Jaguars, who made 31 of 61 field goals.

The Jaguars (9-6) travel to St. Clair tonight for another conference contest.
