B.E. Area boys hoopsters crush New Ulm; Saint girls top Bucs

BLUE EARTH — The Blue Earth Area Bucs boys basketball lineup utilized its trademark balanced offensive attack to flatten the New Ulm Eagles, 92-63, during Big South Conference action Saturday in Blue Earth.

Braden Gudahl neared rare triple-double territory for the Bucs by scoring a game-high 19 points to complement distributing a game-best eight assists and pulling down seven rebounds.

Gudahl and Gabe Torres each connected on three of Blue Earth Area’s 10 trifectas to top an offensive attack that featured five players in double figures.

Sam Keister netted 14 points on 7-for-9 shooting from the floor and pulled down six boards for the Bucs, while teammate Austin Thielfoldt generated 13 points and doled out six assists on the game.

Cameron Anderson neared double-double territory by scoring 12 points and garnering a game-best nine rebounds for Blue Earth Area to complement dishing out three assists.

Will Howard tallied 10 points for the Bucs, Torres contributed nine points, while Ashton Lloyd collected six points and pocketed seven rebounds in the win.

Gavin Storbeck added four points and doled out four assists for the Bucs, who connected on 37 of 75 field goals overall for 49 percent and sank 8 of 12 free throws.

Anderson, Gudahl and Lloyd paced Blue Earth Area’s 41-38 rebounding edge on the contest.

James Osborne produced 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds to pace New Ulm’s effort, while Colton Benson collected 12 points and doled out three assists.

Charlie Osborne scored 11 points and distributed five assists for the Eagles, which made just 22 of 67 field goals overall, but scorched the nets on 12 of 15 free throws.

Blue Earth Area (10-2) plays host to St. James Area at 7:15 p.m. tonight in Blue Earth, while New Ulm (4-6) travels to Kasson-Mantorville on Tuesday night.

Girls Basketball

St. James Area 71, Blue Earth Area 49 — The Saints built a 36-24 halftime lead and never trailed en route to a 22-point Big South Conference victory over the Bucs on Saturday in St. James.

Arika Howard produced an incredible double-double performance by scoring a team-leading 15 points to complement grabbing a career-high 19 rebounds for Blue Earth Area.

Te’a Armstrong connected on three 3-pointers to highlight her 11-point outing to go with doling out seven assists for the Bucs.

Cali Beyer made a pair of 3-pointers to fuel her seven-point effort, while teammates Lauren Schavey, Sophie Keister and McKenna Dutton chipped in four points apiece.

Eloise Blair garnered seven boards and doled out three assists for the Bucs.

Blue Earth Area (3-8) travels to New Ulm tonight for another Big South Conference game.
