JACKSON — Fairmont’s 12-player tidal-wave rotation eventually wore down Jackson County Central’s top seven hoopsters during Monday night’s Big South Conference clash.

Cadee Becker netted a team-best 17 points to pace the Cardinals’ balanced offensive attack that featured half of a dozen players producing between seven to 11 points en route to a 69-49 triumph over the Huskies in Jackson.

“We’re trying a number of different kids in different positions to find the right mix,” said Fairmont head coach Sara Junkermeier. “We were able to get good balanced contributions from everyone who stepped onto the court for us tonight.”

Junior forward Sadie Voss’ 16-point first-half performance, combined with the Cardinals’ 9-for-20 effort at the free throw line during the game’s initial 18 minutes, kept the Huskies within striking distance by intermission.

Voss’ only 3-pointer inched JCC within 31-27 with a minute remaining before halftime before Maggy Totzke and Bryn Miller delivered a respective outside-inside punch to widen Fairmont’s lead to nine by the break.

Totzke, who came off the bench to produce 11 points, drilled the second of her three 3-pointers before Miller banked in a buzzer-beating putback for two of her 11 points on the night.

“We switched up our defense on Voss during the second half, and we managed to hold her to two points,” said Junkermeier.

Maci Farmer, however, picked up the shortage of second-half points by tossing in 10 of her 15 points on the game, including a pair of 3-pointers, to keep the Huskies within 51-42 with 9 1/2 minutes to go in regulation.

Faith Olson, who supplied eight points to complement three assists, swooshed a top-of-the-key trifecta off one of Rayah Quiring’s game-best four assists to trigger the Cardinals’ pivotal 14-3 surge down the stretch.

Olson then converted a steal into a layup before JCC’s Grace Brinkman countered with a 3-pointer to keep within 56-45. Becker, however, tossed in a cutter off a low-post entry pass from Maddy Schwieger before Quiring spotted Miller for a traditional 3-point play in the blocks.

Totzke then threaded a pass through traffic to Becker for a low-post lay-in before Quiring made a perfect inbound pass to Miller for an easy deuce to create a 65-45 lead with 3 minutes remaining.

Brittney Mosloski neared double-double territory by scoring eight points and grabbing nine boards to pace the Cardinals’ 40-28 rebounding edge on the night.

Becker hauled in seven boards to complement her 17-point performance, while Miller pocketed six boards. Quiring scored seven points to go with her four assists.

Voss finished with game-bests of 18 points and seven steals to complement five boards and three steals for the Huskies. Maci Farmer netted a double-double by pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds to go with her 15-point effort.

Fairmont (2-1) plays host to Blue Earth Area on Thursday night at Cardinal Gym in another conference contest, while Jackson County Central (0-4) plays host to Pipestone on Friday night.
