FAIRMONT — The two-time defending Region 13 champion Fairmont Martins will face the Waconia Lakers in the second round of the Minnesota Class ‘C’ amateur baseball state tournament.

Fairmont (22-2), which earned an opening-round bye, and Waconia will square off at 7:30 p.m. Friday night at Yankees Field in Milroy. Waconia shut out Cannon Falls, 8-0, during first-round action Saturday in Springfield.

The winner between the Martins and Lakers advances to play either Lake Henry or Jordan at noon Saturday, Sept. 5, in a third-round state contest in Springfield.

Luverne, which placed third in Region 13, defeated Mora 5-3 in first-round state play Saturday in Springfield. The Redbirds advance to face Young America at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, in Springfield.

Region 13 runner-up Hadley ended its playoff run when it dropped a 4-3 opening-round decision to Randall last Friday night in Milroy.
