Fairmont Martins flatten Lakefield Horned Frogs

BANCROFT, Iowa — Ace right-hander Matt Lytle fired a six-hit complete-game gem and Luke Becker hammered the game-ending two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to pace the Martins’ 13-2 run-rule rout over the Lakefield Horned Frogs.

Lytle recorded 10 strikeouts and issued six walks in going the distance to earn the win.

Ahead 9-2 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, Fairmont erupted for four quick runs to exit its adopted southern home ballpark via the 10-run rule.

Blake Crawmer was hit by a pitch before scoring on Jack Waletich’s RBI double. Spencer Chirpich followed suit with an RBI double to plate Waletich for an 11-2 margin. Luke Becker then deposited a pitch over the fence for the winner.

Levi Becker singled and scored on Tyler Tennyson’s RBI double for Fairmont’s first run in the fourth.

Luke Becker, Tennyson, Ethan Hurn and Lance Becker each generated RBI singles during the Martins’ five-run fifth. Chirpich contributed a sacrifice fly, while Waletich chipped in a double and a bases-loaded walk.

Tennyson had an RBI groundout in the sixth before Hurn drilled an RBI double.

The Martins (6-1) face the Bancroft Those Guys at noon Saturday in Bancroft before playing Lonsdale at 2 p.m. The Martins play Jackson at noon Sunday in Northrop, followed by Worthington at 4 p.m.
