BEA hoopsters top JCC; MVL edges MCW in overtime

BLUE EARTH — Zach Herrmann and Cameron Anderson combined for 32 points to power the Blue Earth Area Bucs to a 73-62 basketball victory over the Jackson County Central Huskies on Saturday in Blue Earth.

Herrmann produced 16 points and pulled down six rebounds, while Anderson generated 16 points and grabbed five boards.

Sam Keister delivered 13 points and garnered a co-team-best eight rebounds for Blue Earth Area, while Braden Gudahl contributed 10 points and doled out a team-high six assists in the win.

Gavin Storbeck netted eight points and garnered a co-team-best eight boards for the Bucs, while Austin Thielfoldt supplied six points and three assists.

Andrew Hesebeck erupted for a game-best double-double effort of 27 points and 12 rebounds for the Huskies, who played without standout point guard Rudy Voss. Voss received two technicals in JCC’s previous game and had to sit out the one-game suspension.

Jack Brinkman contributed 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists to the Huskies’ effort.

Blue Earth Area (12-9) closes out the regular season Thursday night by playing host to Worthington.

Jackson County Central (16-6) plays host to Sioux Falls Christian tonight.

Minnesota Valley Lutheran 63, Martin County West 58, OT — The Mavericks rallied from a narrow two-point halftime deficit to force overtime, but the Class AA No. 7-ranked Chargers salvaged a five-point non-league victory via a 9-4 edge in the 4-minute extra session Saturday night in New Ulm.

Dunwa Omot poured in a game-best 30 points to pace MVL, while teammate Mason Cox chipped in 17 points.

Wyatt Geistfeld produced a double-double performance of 28 points and 10 rebounds to complement three blocked shosts for MCW, while Tanner Sinn delivered 12 points.

Zach Anderson neared double-double territory by netting nine points to go with 10 boards for the Mavericks, who sank 22 of 44 field goals overall and connected on 10 of 14 free throws.

Martin County West (18-8) netted the No. 5 seed for the Section 2A, South Sub-Section playoffs. The Mavericks travel to No. 4-seeded Nicollet on Saturday night for a 7 p.m. sub-section quarterfinal.

Minnesota Valley Lutheran (24-2) awaits its seeding for the upcoming Section 2AA, North Sub-Section tournament.
