Warriors boys basketball playoff game reslated

ARMSTRONG — The North Union Warriors boys basketball team’s Iowa Class 2A, District 3 playoff game against Sioux Central on Monday night was postponed due to wintery weather.

North Union and Sioux Central will tip off at 8 p.m. tonight in Sioux Rapids.

North Union girls tip off regional playoffs

ARMSTRONG — The North Union Warriors girls basketball team plays host to Pocahontas at 7 p.m. tonight in Armstrong in an Iowa Class 2A, Region 2 quarterfinal game.

Both North Union and Pocahontas enter tonight’s postseason game with 14-7 records.

Jaguar girls basketball downs Rebels, 57-47

GRANADA — Emily Stauter scored a game-best 16 points to top the Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther Jaguars’ 57-47 nonconference basketball victory over the United South Central Rebels on Monday night.

Jayme Balcom delivered 10 points, six rebounds and five steals for the Jaguars, while Makayla Hall contributed eight points and five steals to the winning performance.

Michaelah Petrowiak and Eden Studer each grabbed five rebounds for the Jaguars, who connected on 21 of 33 free throws on the game. The Jaguars also made 17 of 48 shots from 2-point range and 1 of 7 from behind the 3-point arc.

The Jaguars led 32-20 at halftime.

Maya Zebro netted 11 points to top USC, while teammate Taige Sehr added 10 points.

The Jaguars (11-14) travel to Comfrey tonight to play Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey.

Fairmont Area boys hockey hosts 3A contest tonight

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont Area Cardinals boys hockey team plays host to Willmar tonight in a 7 p.m. Section 3A play-in contest at Martin County Arena in Fairmont.

The winner between Fairmont Area and Willmar advances to play No. 1-seeded Hutchinson in a sectional quarterfinal at 7 p.m. Thursday night in Burich Arena in Hutchinson.

7th-grade hoopsters 2nd at tournament

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont seventh-grade Red girls basketball team placed second during the weekend Fairmont tournament.

Austin defeated Fairmont in first-round action, 36-12.

Brylee Miller collected six points and five rebounds to top Red’s effort, while Ellie Ortega contributed four points and seven boards to the victory.

Fairmont rebounded to post a 23-17 second-round triumph over Worthington.

Ortega tallied nine points to top Red, Meredith Nemmers generated five points and six boards, while Miller supplied five points and four boards.

Ortega delivered 10 points and seven rebounds to help guide Fairmont to a 40-12 third-round win over North Union.

Miller poured in a game-best 14 points, while Nemmers chipped in nine points.

PeeWees post 1-2 mark at District 4

FAIRMONT — The REMAX Total Realty PeeWee ‘B’ hockey team compiled a 1-2 record during the weekend District 4 tournament in Redwood Falls.

Worthington eked out a 5-4 double-overtime win over REMAX during their opener on Thursday.

Gavin Kester, Jace Meade, Mack Anderson and Caleb Meyer each netted one goal for REMAX, while Klay Beemer and Preston Rogge doled out assists.

REMAX goalie Barret Scholl tallied 26 saves on the opener.

Kester erupted for four goals and an assist to power REMAX to a 9-5 second-round win over Okoboji Lakes Area on Saturday morning.

Beemer netted two goals, while Eric Determan, Noah Bettin and Meade contributed one goal apiece to the win.

Logan Madsen and Jordan Walter joined Rogge and Scholl with one helper each, while netminder Tanner Pankow tallied 13 stops.

Worthington edged REMAX again, 4-3, during third-round action on Saturday night.

Lucas Roiger scored two goals, while Beemer delivered a short-handed goal for REMAX.

Kester doled out two assists, Determan and Scholl combined for a double-assist and Pankow recorded 15 saves.

The REMAX Total Realty PeeWee hockey team finished the season fifth in the eight-team district.

Squirts ‘B’ hockey earns 6-3 victory

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont Squirt ‘B’ hockey team, sponsored by Connie Krahmer, doubled the score on Marshall on Sunday.

Noah Meixell scored two goals and doled out one assist for Fairmont, Hunter Olson netted one goal and distributed two helpers, while Preston Cepress collected one goal and one assist.

Collin Kain and Axel Chapman each chipped in goals, Hunter Thate dished out an assist, while Fairmont goaltender Ian Obernolte recorded six saves for the win.
