Fairmont ‘C’ hoopsters post victory

FAIRMONT — Abby Cihoski produced 14 points, grabbed eight rebounds and pocketed four steals to guide the Fairmont Cardinals to a 36-20 victory over Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther in a C-squad basketball game Monday.

Anna Ehlert contributed nine points to the Cardinals’ winning effort.

Fairmont (4-0) travels to St. Peter on Friday night.

PeeWee hockey team nets shutout

FAIRMONT — The REMAX Total Realty PeeWee hockey team posted a 6-0 shutout over Marshall on Saturday in Marshall.

Kegan Roloff netted one goal and distributed an assist to top REMAX, which generated a 50-12 shots-on-goal advantage.

Gavin Kester and Klay Beemer produced two goals apiece, Eric Determan supplied one goal, while Tyler Kurt chipped in an assist in the win.

Goaltender Barret Scholl made 12 saves to earn the shutout for REMAX.

The REMAX Total Realty PeeWee team opens the three-day Little Falls tournament against Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato at 7:15 p.m. Friday.

12U girls garner first game of 2020

FAIRMONT — The Wyffels Hybrids 12U girls hockey team opened the New Year with a 7-2 triumph over Windom on Saturday in Windom.

Maia Goerndt produced a hat trick to power the Fairmont-based squad, while Abi Sundeen contributed two goals to the winning effort.

Brooklyn Murphy delivered one goal and an assist, Jadyn Musser tallied a goal, while Brittney Lopau added a helper for Wyffels Hybrids.

Netkeeper Ilana Moeller made 24 saves to merit the victory for Fairmont, which had just 14 shots on goal.

New Ulm/Sleepy Eye posted a 10-1 win over Wyffels Hybrids during the final game of last year on Dec. 29 at Martin County Arena in Fairmont.

Musser converted Goerndt’s assist into Fairmont’s only goal, while Moeller turned away a game-best 35 shots between the pipes.

The Wyffels Hybrids 12U girls hockey team opens the three-day Albert Lea tournament against host Albert Lea at 5:15 p.m. Friday.
