Fairmont tennis tops Luverne; No. 6 Bucs down Arrows

LUVERNE — Fairmont swept the singles bracket to highlight a 5-2 victory over Luverne during Big South Conference tennis action Tuesday.

Claire Nemmers needed only two games over the minimum to best Roz Oye at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-2, while Fairmont teammate Briana Joseph did likewise in posting back-to-back 6-1 set win over Ainslie Robinson at No. 2 singles.

Lauren Green outdueled Liz Kelm at third singles, 7-5, 6-3, while Emily Hagen capped Fairmont’s bracket sweep with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 decision over Brynn Thier at the No. 4 spot.

Bergen Senf and Lauren Davis combined at the No. 1 position to net Fairmont’s only doubles win via a 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 decision over Lauren VerSteeg and Solveig Tofteland.

Olivia Wieneke and Jacey Smith netted one of Luverne’s team tallies by outslugging Shannon Green and Ellie Hernes at No. 2 doubles, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4. Kacie Kracht and Mia Wenzel outlasted Fairmont’s Libby Totzke and Anika Haugen at No. 3 doubles, 7-5, 7-6 (8-6).

Fairmont (4-2) plays host to Albert Lea at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in a nonconference dual meet at Cardinal Courts.

Fairmont’s Madi Northwick and Abi Peyman defeated Luverne’s Hope Thorson and Kristin Rud in junior varsity action, 3-4, 4-3, (10-8), in Luverne.

Blue Earth Area 7, Pipestone 0 — The Class A No. 6-ranked Bucs coasted to straight-set wins at all seven positions to ground the Arrows during Big South action Tuesday in Pipestone.

Te’a Armstrong rolled to a 6-0, 6-4 triumph over Paige Ahrendt at No. 1 singles for BEA, while Macie Stevermer served a 6-2, 6-0 loss to Mataya Douty at the No. 2 spot.

Arika Howard needed only 13 games to glide to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Olivia Lapthorn at No. 3 singles, while the Bucs’ Marissa Benz posted a 6-3, 6-0 decision over Hannah Minet at the fourth singles spot.

McKenna Dutton and Cali Beyer produced back-to-back 6-2 set wins over Mackenzie Manderscheid and Skylar Mendro at No. 1 doubles, while the Bucs’ second doubles tandem of Britt Howard and Lyndsey Borris dealt a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Toryn Woelber and Emma Stahl.

Addison Armstrong and Kiley Rosenau capped the doubles bracket sweep by netting a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Jenna Boeke and Brielle Kulm at the No. 3 spot.

Blue Earth Area (5-0) plays host to Maple River at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hal Schroeder Courts in Blue Earth.
