Blue Earth Area tennis sweeps way to GSL Invite crown

GLENCOE — The Blue Earth Area Bucs girls tennis team swept through the Glencoe-Silver Lake quadrangular Tuesday in Glencoe.

After a three-hour rain delay, each set started with a 2-2 game score in an attempt to get every match completed.

BEA swept through all three teams it faced, beating Sibley East, United South Central and host Glencoe-Silver Lake by consecutive 7-0 team decisions.

Te’a Armstrong controlled her first singles matchups, beating Sibley East’s Brianna Kranz, 6-3, 6-2, before taking down USC’s Daylyn Huper, 6-2, 6-2. Armstrong then added a 6-3, 6-3 win over GSL’s Taylor Hatlestad.

At the second singles position, BEA’s Macie Stevermer went 3-0 on the day with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Sibley East’s Jacqueline Wibstad, followed by a 6-2, 6-4 win over USC’s Trinity Seedorf and a 6-2, 6-2 win over GSL’s Katelyn Lemke.

The Bucs’ Arika Howard dominated the quad’s third singles spot with a 3-6, 6-3, 7-3 comeback win over Sibley East’s Rachel Widmer and a 7-6, 6-3 win over USC’s Sarah Mantor. Howard added a 6-2, 6-2, win over GSL’s Tatyana Tkachenko.

At the fourth singles position, BEA’s Marissa Benz beat Sibley East’s Ashtyn Bullert, 6-3, 6-3. She beat USC’s Olivia Schwartz, 6-2, 6-3 and coasted by GSL’s Leah Nemec, 6-2, 6-2.

In the doubles bracket, BEA’s combination of McKenna Dutton and Cali Beyer combined for a 2-0 record. Dutton and Beyer beat Sibley East’s tandem of Isabel Figueroa and Maty Messner, 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 1 spot.

Dutton and Beyer also downed GSL’s Emma Malz and Ella Maz, 6-3, 6-2.

Dutton paired with Britt Howard to beat USC’s Delaney Weber and Lauren Zebro, 3-6, 7-5, 7-4 at No. 1 doubles.

At second doubles, the Bucs’ Britt Howard and Lyndsey Borris took down Sibley East’s Holly Otto and Mallory Sylvester, 7-6, 6-4, then beat GSL’s Britt Richter and Courtney Hatlestad, 6-3, 6-4.

Beyer and Kiley Rosenau took the second doubles position against USC, beating Alyson Swanson and Maya Zebro, 6-4, 5-7, (7-3).

Rosenau and Addison Armstrong teamed for third doubles against Sibley East, defeating Jessica Widmer and Shelby Dieball, 6-3, 6-3. Then Borris and Sydney Blagg combined at the final doubles spot to beat USC’s Kelsie Chapman and Elizabeth Roman, 6-2, 6-3. Finally, Rosenau and Addison Armstrong paired up again to beat the GSL third doubles combo of Jenna Trippel and Lauren Terlinden 6-3, 6-2.

Blue Earth Area (3-0) travels to Le Sueur to face Le Sueur-Henderson at 10 a.m. today.
