Three Fairmont summer girls soccer teams gain state

FAIRMONT — Faimont’s girls youth soccer teams will be well represented at this year’s Minnesota Youth Soccer Association Summer State Championships.

The Associate Optometry U15 girls will be the first Fairmont team to compete. Fairmont finished the regular season with seven wins and two ties, which put Associate Optometry atop its group standings with 23 points.

Fairmont opens the state competition against St. Anthony at 6:30 p.m. Friday on Field 4 at the 17th Avenue Sports Complex in Shakopee.

Associate Optometry will then take on the Minnesota Rush at 9:30 a.m. Saturday on Field 6 at the complex.

If Fairmont is one of the top four teams in its eight-team bracket, it will move on to a 1:30 p.m. game Saturday on either Field 5 or Field 6 for a chance to play in the championship game at 10 a.m. Sunday on Field 2.

Car Parts Direct U13 girls will be the next Fairmont team to compete. After finishing the regular season with a record of 8-2 — good for second in its group standings and fourth in the state with 24 points, Fairmont will begin state competition with two games on Saturday.

Car Parts Direct will face off against the Southeast Cheetahs at 11:30 a.m. at the 17th Avenue Sports Complex on Field 4. Fairmont will play its second game of the tournament later that day when it faces the IGH Heat on the same field at 3:30 p.m.

If Car Parts Direct is one of the top four out of the eight-team field after Saturday’s games, it will play at 8 a.m. Sunday for a chance to go to the championship game at 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

The Saxton Farms U18 team will be the final Fairmont squad in summer state competition when it starts play on July 24.

The U18 girls finished second in their league with 27 points coming from nine wins. St. Peter took first on the third tiebreaking criteria of goals allowed.

Fairmont’s opening game will be on Field 3 of the Coon Rapids Soccer Complex at 5 p.m. July 24 against NMSA G 2001 C2 Mau. Fairmont will then play North East U on the same soccer field at 9 p.m. July 25.

If Fairmont is one of the top four teams in the six-team field, it will play at 5 p.m. July 26 for a chance to go to the championship game at 10 a.m. July 27 on Field 6 of the 17th Avenue Sports Complex in Shakopee.
