FHS football to hold golf event

FAIRMONT — The 9th annual Fairmont Football Golf Open Tournament and Silent Auction will tee off Friday, Aug. 9, at Interlaken Golf Course.

Players can register at noon that day, followed by a 1 p.m. shotgun start. A dinner will follow the round of golf at 6 p.m. in conjunction with the silent auction.

The event will be foursome team play, with an entry fee — which includes a cart — of $100 per golfer.

Team awards and door prizes also will follow the best-shot scramble.

The tournament is presented by the Fairmont Area Football Association, Inc.

14U softball splits twinbill

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont 14U girls softball team split a doubleheader with Jackson County Central on Monday night.

JCC posted a 6-1 victory over Fairmont in the opener. Paige Hainy and Johanna Petschke each generated hits for Fairmont in Game 1.

Hainy allowed one run in three hitless innings pitched, walking seven and striking out four. Mandy Pytleski gave up five runs on five hits, struck out three and walked one in two innings of relief.

Pytleski doubled and singled, while Allison Janssen supplied two hits to help Fairmont rebound for a 9-3 triumph in the nightcap. Ava Gilmore, Emma Gudahl and Emily Muller each supplied hits in the winning effort.

Janssen allowed one hit in 2 1/3 shutout innings of relief, striking out four and walking two. Nevaeh Rahm gave up three runs in 1 2/3 hitless innings, walking seven and striking out four.
