Senf powers Fairmont golfers to 2nd at Byron Invite

BYRON — The Fairmont Cardinal girls golf team placed second with a score of 361 at the Byron Invitational at Somerby Golf Course in Byron on Monday.

Bergen Senf earned medalist honors with her 18-hole round of 42-37-79 to lead the Cardinals.

Maggy Totzke shot a 41-45-86, but lost a scorecard playoff and placed sixth as an individual for Fairmont.

Anika Haugen shot a person-best 46-47-93, while Isabell Geiger hit a 49-54-103 as the final Fairmont contributing score. Anna Nordquist hit a 55-55-110, while Bailey Martinson shot a 54-57-111 to round out the Cardinals’ effort.

Lake City took first as a team with a total of 337, while Rochester John Marshall placed third at 374.

Lake City’s Ava Wallerich, Hannah LaBonte and Marah Rothgarn each shot 83s to place second, third and fourth, respectively, in the individual competition, while Stewartville’s Campbell Gunderson hit an 86 and beat Totzke in the scorecard playoff for fifth overall.

The Fairmont girls (42-3) travel to Oakdale Golf Club at noon Thursday for invitational action.

Top of Iowa Conference (Girls)

The North Union Warriors girls golf team placed first at the Top of Iowa Conference Meet Monday at Gruis Golf Course.

Halle Rezac led the Warriors with her runner-up medalist score of 96, while Jordyn Cummins hit a 100 for fifth place as an individual.

Kayla Sabin added a 105 and Vanessa VonBank shot a 106 for the final Warriors’ contributing scores.

Carys Fuller hit a 110 to round out the Warriors’ scoring.

Bishop Garrigan ended second as a team, two strokes behind North Union at 409, while Lake Mills placed third with a total of 476.

Garner-Hayfield/Ventura’s Carlee Frayne earned medalist and player of the year honors with her score of 83. Garner-Hayfield/Ventura’s Todd Greiman earned coach of the year.

The North Union girls compete in the Iowa Class 1A regional meet on Monday, May 13, at Spring Valley Golf Course in Livermore, Iowa.

Top of Iowa Conference (Boys)

The North Union Warriors boys golf team placed fifth in the Top of Iowa Conference West Division Meet in Armstrong on Monday.

Forest City’s Tyler Clouse was named player of the year, while Lake Mills’ Lyle Thomson earned coach of the year honors, with Lake Mills taking the meet at a combined score of 346.

North Union’s 387 earned fifth behind Garner-Hayfield/ Ventura’s fourth-place showing at 379.

The Warriors’ Hayden Nicoson placed fifth as an individual with his 18-hole score of 82.

Nicoson shot four pars on the front nine to build his 4-over 40, while hitting five pars on the back for a 6-over 42.

Parker Eichenberger hit a 55-42-97 on the back of three pars and a birdie, all coming on the back nine, for second on the Warriors.

Gage Madden and Michael Hanson each shot a 104 overall for the final two Warriors’ contributing scores.

Madden hit a front-nine 53, while making one par on the back-nine for a 51. Hanson hit 52 on both the front and back nine with two pars.

Carter Anderson hit a 60-46-106 with three pars, while Jacob Burt knocked 64-56-120 to round out the Warriors’ scoring.

Clouse connected for the medalist score of 72, while Lake Mills’ Bennett Berger and Casey Hanson each shot 79s for second and third, respectively, and Bishop Garrigan’s Andrew Arndorfer shot 82 for fourth as an individual.

North Union competes in the Iowa Class 1A district tournament at 10 a.m. Friday at Newell Municipal Golf Course in Newell, Iowa.

Blue Earth Area 156, Windom 198 (Boys) — Manning Lane shot a nine-hole score of 35 for medalist honors to lead the Bucs to a dual meet win over the Eagles in Big South Conference play Monday night at Riverside Town & Country Golf Course.

Lane built his 1-under 35 on eight pars and a birdie on the par-4 second hole.

Braden Gudahl earned runner-up honors with his score of 39 off four pars and a birdie on the par-3 seventh hole.

Hunter Spencer knocked in seven par putts to shoot a 40, while Ashton Lloyd made four pars to build a score of 44 for the final contributing BEA scores.

Max Ehrich sank four par putts to shoot a 44, while Gaven Bruellman hit three pars for a 45.

Parker Avstad led Windom with a 42, while Jackson Roll hit a 48.

Zach Rabbe hit a 52, while Eli Lund shot a 56 for the final Windom contributing scores.

The BEA boys hit the greens again at 4:30 p.m. today when they travel to Waseca for a dual meet.

Lakeville South Invite

The Blue Earth Area Boys finished 10th overall during the Lakeville South Invite at Dakotah Ridge Golf Course in Morton on Saturday.

Lakeville North took first in the invite with a combined score of 298, while Edina hit a 301 for second.

Hunter Spencer shot an 18-hole 72 to lead the Bucs, while Manning Lane notched an 81 for second.

Gaven Bruellman hit an 83 and Braden Gudahl totalled 90 as the final BEA contributing scores.

Ashton Lloyd hit a 92 and Max Ehrich marked a 102 to round out the Bucs’ scoring.
