Fairmont baseball hands Luverne 1st loss

LUVERNE — Right-hander Joey Flohrs tossed a six-hit complete-game gem, while Zac Ringnell and Dustin Schultz each produced three hits to power Fairmont to an 8-2 Big South baseball triumph over Luverne on Monday.

The loss proved to be the first of the season for Luverne, which opened with eight straight wins.

Flohrs allowed two runs, struck out five and walked two in seven innings to earn the complete-game win.

Schultz went 3-for-4, scored twice and collected one RBI, while Ringnell went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs.

Cale Steuber drilled a two-run double, Jacob Tennyson lined a pinch-hit RBI double, while Nick Eversman doubled and scored a run for Fairmont. Dalen Keltgen singled and scored a run, while Daniel Reiter and Flohrs each added a hit.

Fairmont (5-2) travels to St. Peter today for another conference game at 5:30 p.m.

Luverne shut out Fairmont, 7-0, during B-squad action Monday.

Tyson Geerdes went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple for Fairmont, while teammate Jacob Johnson supplied a double.

Luverne outslugged Fairmont, 10-7, during C-squad action Monday.

Landon Meyerdirk collected two hits, including a double, to top Fairmont, while Lincoln Becker and Jack Kosbab each singled.

Cooper Steuber, Brendan Schmidtke and Skyler Aukes also collected one hit apiece to round out Fairmont’s performance.

Prep Softball

Blue Earth Area 9, Waseca 7 — McKenna Dutton doubled, singled, produced two RBIs and scored a run to guide the Bucs to their first win of the season during Big South action Monday in Blue Earth.

Miya Gustafson collected two hits and scored twice for BEA, Sydney Blagg doubled in two runs and crossed the plate once, while Adrianna Granillo produced three RBIs with one hit.

Lauren Madetzke allowed seven runs — four earned — on 13 hits, struck out four and walked three in seven innings to earn the complete-game victory for the Bucs.

Blue Earth Area (1-8) plays host to Windom Area tonight.
