Jaguars’ 2A

game tonight

MOUNTAIN LAKE — The Truman/Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain Jaguars boys basketball team’s Section 2A, South Sub-Section quarterfinal game against the Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey Wolverines on Monday night was postponed due to the weather.

The No. 6-seeded Jaguars and the No. 3-seeded Wolverines will tip off their playoff game at 7 p.m. tonight in Mountain Lake.

The winner between the Jaguars and Wolverines advances to play the winner between No. 2 seed Springfield and No. 7 seed Mankato Loyola in a 7:30 p.m. South Sub-Section semifinal on Thursday in Lake Crystal.

Steinhaus wins

ExCEL award

NORTHROP — Martin Luther High School junior student-athlete Lydia Steinhaus was selected as a winner of one of the Minnesota State High School League and Wells Fargo’s 2019 ExCEL awards.

The award is annually given exclusively to high school juniors who excel in community, education and leadership.

Fund-raiser

set for Friday

NORTHROP — The Northrop Baseball Association will hold a pork chop on a stick fund-raiser from 5-7:30 p.m. Friday at the St. James Lutheran Church’s fellowship hall in Northrop.

The cost is $10 per adult and $6 per child (ages 10 and under).

The meal includes a Martin County Pork Producers’ pork chop or pork patty, Nancy Jo’s cheesy potatoes, lettuce salad, Special K bar and water.

Friday night also will be registration night for all Northrop teams.

The gymnasium will be available for supervised open gym. Players are asked to bring clean shoes to wear inside.

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont Baseball Association would like to remind families that registration is currently open online at www.fairmontbaseball.com.

Sign-up is for the association’s summer I-90 league (Minor, Junior and Pony leagues), Junior. Martins traveling baseball (10U, 11U, 12U and 13U) and their VFW and Legion baseball.

Sign-up should be completed by March 15. Registrations received after March 15 will be assessed a late entry fee.

Gustafson nets

Big Ten honor

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Iowa senior Megan Gustafson was named the Big Ten basketball player of the year Monday.

Gustafson averaged 28.4 points, 13.8 rebounds, and shot 68.7 percent from the field in Big Ten games this season. She scored at least 20 points in 17 of Iowa’s 18 games.
