Iowa prep basketball playoffs rescheduled

ARMSTRONG — The North Union boys basketball team’s Class 1A, District 3 first-round game against Northwood-Kensett will tip off at 6 p.m. tonight in Armstrong.

The game, originally set for Monday, was postponed due to inclement weather and poor traveling conditions.

The North Union girls basketball lineup’s Class 2A, Region quarterfinals against Emmetsburg will start at approximately 7:45 p.m. tonight in Armstrong.

Jaguars set for split basketball twinbill

GRANADA — The Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther Jaguars girls basketball team will play host to Westbrook-Walnut Grove at 5:30 p.m. tonight in Granada.

The Jaguar girls’ game was moved due to the Truman/Martin Luther/GHEC boys basketball game needing to reschedule Valley opponent Madelia.

The Jaguar boys hoopsters will play host to Madelia at 7:15 p.m. tonight in Granada.

8th-graders win hoops tournament

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont Cardinal eighth-grade girls basketball team won the Waconia tournament over the weekend.

Anna Busche scored 10 points to help guide Fairmont to an opening 36-14 win over Cottage Grove. Jazlyn Geerdes netted seven points for the Cardinals, Abby Cihoski tallied six points and Kate Busche pulled down four rebounds.

Kate Busche produced 10 points and four rebounds to steer Fairmont to a 28-10 semifinal victory over Shakopee. Olivia Ortega netted seven points, Geerdes scored five points and Cihoski garnered four rebounds for the Cardinals.

Ortega and Geerdes each collected eight points to help Fairmont edge Minnetonka Black, 27-26, for the championship. Cihoski contributed six points and four rebounds to the winning effort.

PeeWees split pair of hockey games

FAIRMONT — The Carlson Dental PeeWee ‘A’ hockey team of Fairmont split a pair of weekend games at Martin County Arena.

Luverne defeated Fairmont, 9-2, Saturday. Tyson Pankow and Hank Artz each scored a goal for Carlson Dental, while Kegan Roloff and Jace Teveldal supplied one assist apiece.

Fairmont goalie Ethan Geerdes made 24 saves.

Artz scored two goals and distributed two assists, while Brock Lutterman delivered one goal and three assists to pace Fairmont’s 4-3 win over Marshall on Sunday.

Beau Becker supplied one goal and one assist, Pankow added a helper. Geerdes turned away 24 shots to net the win between the pipes.

The Carlson Dental PeeWee ‘A’ hockey team plays in the district tournament Thursday through Sunday in Worthington.
