North Union girls hoopsters end regular season with triumph

BELMOND, Iowa — North Union junior post player Chloe Lofstrom produced yet another double-double performance to help power the Warriors to a 62-24 Top of Iowa Conference basketball victory over the Belmond-Klemme Broncos on Monday night.

Lofstrom scored a game-best 18 points and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds to complement distributing three assists during the Warriors’ regular-season finale.

Maddie Rolling netted 11 points and pocketed a game-leading five steals for North Union, Rory McClellan scored eight points, while Brooklyn Prochniak supplied six points, three assists and three steals.

Vanessa Von Bank chipped in six points for the Warriors, while teammate Hope Steinberger distributed a game-best five assists.

The Warriors connected on 17 of 37 shots from 2-point distance for 46 percent, 4 of 16 from 3-point range for 25 percent and only 16 of 37 at the free throw line for 43 percent.

North Union’s defense limited Belmond-Klemme to only eight first-half points en route to a 23-point lead by intermission.

North Union (13-6) opens the Iowa Class 2A, Region 2 quarterfinals against the winner between Emmetsburg and Manson-Northwest Webster at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, in Armstrong.

Boys Basketball

Belmond-Klemme 57, North Union 51 — Tristan Yoder netted 18 points to steer the Broncos to a six-point Top of Iowa Conference victory over the Warriors on Monday night in Belmond, Iowa.

The Broncos held a narrow 28-26 lead at intermission before fending off the Warriors in the second half, 29-25.

Robert Ortman generated a game-best 20 points, collected five rebounds and pocketed three steals to top North Union’s effort.

Elliott Hagebock produced another double-double performance by scoring 10 points and pulling down a game-best 10 rebounds to complement doling out three assists for the Warriors.

Brendan Anderson supplied nine points and garnered five steals for the Warriors.

North Union made 12 of 27 shots from 2-point territory, just 5 of 27 from behind the 3-point arc and 12 of 24 at the charity stripe.

North Union (3-15) travels to West Bend-Mallard on Friday night for a regular-season game.
