Redwood Valley shuts out Fairmont Area boys hockey
FAIRMONT — The Redwood Valley Cardinals soared past the Fairmont Area Cardinals in a Big South Conference hockey clash at Martin County Arena in Fairmont on Friday night.
Redwood Valley beat Fairmont Area 9-0, while outshooting them by a staggering 41-3 margin.
Luke Ryan got the scoring started for Redwood Valley when he scored an unnassisted goal 22 seconds into the matchup.
Redwood Valley’s Jed Hansen followed with an unassisted goal at the 13:05 juncture of the first period and Carter Iwan scored a goal off an assist from Will O’Halloran with 11:11 left in the opening segment.
Aeneas Pacheco scored unassisted for the final goal of the first period with 5:50 remaining.
Redwood Valley scored three goals in the middle segment.
Hansen scored his second of the game, this time with an assist from O’Halloran, also his second helper. Hansen scored with 3:35 left in the second period.
D’on Sullivan followed with his lone goal of the night off an assist from Stian Vralstad with 2:49 left before the end of the middle segment.
Ryan scored his second unassisted goal of the night with 52 seconds remaining, then opened the third period when he collected a hat trick with another unassisted goal at the 10:45 juncture of the final segment.
Vralstad scored the final Redwood Valley goal of the game off a double assist from Cameran Sommers and Sullivan with 8:25 left in the matchup.
Dakotah Hoefker made 32 saves in goal for the hometown Cardinals, while Kia Jacobson made three saves for Redwood Valley.
Fairmont Area (1-18, 1-12 Big South Conference) travels to Luverne at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night.
Redwood Valley (6-14, 3-10 Big South) plays host to Waseca on Monday night.
