Fairmont B-squad cagers lose 1-point game

FAIRMONT — Martin County West edged Fairmont during B-squad boys basketball action, 27-26, Saturday in Fairmont.

Jackson Utermarck scored 14 points to top the Cardinals’ effort, while Jake Harris chipped in four points.

Redwood Valley boys hockey ices Fairmont, 9-1

REDWOOD FALLS — Jed Hansen produced a hat trick and one assist to guide Redwood Valley to a 9-1 victory over Fairmont Area during Big South Conference hockey action Saturday in Redwood Falls.

No other individual or team statistics were provided for the game.

Fairmont Area (0-11) plays host to Luverne at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night at Martin County Arena.

8th-grade traveling team 1-2 at tournament

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont Cardinals eighth-grade girls traveling basketball team posted a 1-2 record at the Hutchinson tournament on Saturday.

St. Peter netted a 19-12 opening-round win over Fairmont. Abby Cihoski scored six points and grabbed three rebounds to top the Cardinals.

Glencoe-Silver Lake edged Fairmont in second-round action, 27-23. Cihoski tallied nine points, while teammate Jazlyn Geerdes scored seven points.

Fairmont rallied for a 40-16 win over Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial during third-round action. Cihoski collected 16 points and three rebounds, Anna Ehlert netted eight points, Geerdes scored seven, Kate Busche added four points, while Allison Janssen grabbed four rebounds.
