North Union hoopsters split two with North Iowa

BUFFALO CENTER, Iowa — North Union junior post player Chloe Lofstrom produced a game-high double-double performance to power the Warriors to a 75-24 rout over the North Iowa Bison during Iowa prep basketball action Friday night.

Lofstrom connected on 13 of 17 field goals to pace a 31-point effort to complement garnering 11 rebounds.

Rory McClellan delivered 14 points for North Union, while Lilly Henderson contributed eight points and five boards.

Brooklyn Prochniak tallied seven points, distributed four assists and pocketed four steals for the Warriors, while Maddie Rolling collected seven points and three steals.

Hope Steinberger doled out a game-best seven assists, while Jordyn Cummins and May Laverty each generated three steals for North Union.

The Warriors made 26 of 48 shots from 2-point range for 54.2 percent, hit 3 of 9 behind the 3-point arc and sank 14 of 22 free throws for 63.6 percent.

North Union erupted for a 27-2 first-quarter lead and never trailed for the duration. The Warriors’ smothering defense held the Bison to only five second-half points.

The Warriors (2-0) play host to Forest City at 6 p.m. Tuesday night in Armstrong.

Boys Basketball

North Iowa 52, North Union 47 — The Bison built a 25-20 halftime lead before playing the Warriors even on the scoreboard in the second half en route to the win on Friday night in Buffalo Center, Iowa.

Elliott Hagebock produced a double-double performance of 20 points and 15 rebounds to complement a game-high six blocked shots for the Warriors.

Noah Morphew sank three 3-pointers to help pace his 17-point performance for North Union, while teammate Rob Ortman chipped in eight points, six rebounds and three assists.

The Warriors connected on 10 of 25 shots from 2-point range for 40 percent, only 7 of 28 behind the 3-point arc for 25 percent and 6 of 11 at the free throw line.

North Union (0-1) hosts Forest City at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night.
