Stauter guides Jaguars to win over Rebels

WELLS — Rachel Stauter’s double-double performance led the Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther Jaguars past the United South Central Rebels 50-43 in non-conference basketball action Thursday night in Wells.

Stauter totaled 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while teammate Michaelah Petrowiak neared double-double territory with 10 points and eight rebounds. Lydia Studer dropped in nine points for the Jaguars.

Lizzy Baird led the Rebels with 15 points and teammate Katie Dylla scored 13.

The Rebels shot 7-for-18 from the free throw line, while the Jaguars were 6 of 32 from the charity stripe.

The Jaguars totalled 17 steals to help their winning ways.

GHEC/Truman/Martin Luther (1-1) plays Cedar Mountain/Comfrey in Morgan on Tuesday night in another non-league game, while United South Central (0-1) plays host to Blooming Prairie tonight in Wells.

New Ulm 65, Martin County West 25 — Small forward Ellie Bute scorched the nets on seven 3-pointers to pace her game-best 25-point performance to power the Eagles to a 40-point nonconference triumph over the Mavericks on Thursday night in New Ulm.

Point guard Joey Batt, a Minnesota State University, Mankato basketball commit, delivered 22 points to New Ulm’s winning ways.

Sami Meyer scored eight points and pulled down five rebounds to help pace the Mavericks, while teammate Alyssa Williamson collected seven points, six rebounds and two steals on the night.

Marissa Whitehead supplied six points for MCW, Madison Klima pocketed six rebounds to complement two assists and two steals, while Karlee Thiesse chipped in five boards.

The Mavericks made 8 of 34 field goals overall and 8 of 13 free throws, while the Eagles sank 9 of 13 at the charity stripe.

Martin County West (1-1) plays host to Jackson County Central next Thursday night in Trimont, while New Ulm (1-1) plays host to Waseca on Tuesday night.
