ST. JAMES — The youthful Fairmont Cardinals girls tennis lineup posted a 1-2 record during the St. James Area Quadrangular on Friday in St. James.

Fairmont captured four team points to one during its dual meet with Montevideo to officially garner its first team triumph of the season before rain washed out the third singles and second doubles matches in their respective third sets.

Eighth-grader Claire Nemmers outslugged Montevideo senior Erica Loose to claim the No. 2 singles point, 7-5, 6-4, while Fairmont freshman Lauren Green downed junior Alissa Eickhoff at the No. 4 spot in the singles bracket, 6-2, 6-1.

The Cardinals’ No. 1 doubles tandem of Brittany Bass and Bergen Senf netted a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Andrea Loose and Hannah Cushing, while Holly Petrowiak and Marina Speckman combined court skills at third doubles to serve back-to-back 6-2 set losses to Montevideo’s Cassidy Rustman and Morgan Ramos.

Eighth-grader Maggy Totzke battled Montevideo senior Susie Wamstad to a third set at No. 3 singles, while Fairmont eighth-graders Lauren Davis and Briana Joseph were locked up in a third set with Taylor Knutson and Emily Brace at No. 2 doubles when the rains occurred.

Chanhassen and host St. James Area each posted 7-0 victories over Fairmont during the four-team event.

Fairmont (1-5) plays host to United South Central at 4:30 p.m. Monday at the Cardinal Courts.
