MINNEAPOLIS — The Fairmont Cardinals girls tennis team lost to Minneapolis Washburn and Osseo during a season-opening triangular on Friday at Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center in Minneapolis.

Briana Joseph provided the Cardinals with their lone team point in a 6-1 loss to the Minneapolis Washburn Millers before Fairmont fell to the Osseo Orioles, 4-3.

Joseph, who played at the No. 4 singles position, beat Lauren Taylor in back-to-back 6-1 sets.

At the No. 1 singles spot, Washburn’s Emma Anderson beat Sydney Hainy, 6-2, 6-2, while Franny Mayer took a 6-0, 6-2 decision over Claire Nemmers at the second singles position.

Eliana Pierotti beat Fairmont No. 3 singles player Brittany Bass, 6-3, 6-2.

The Millers swept the doubles bracket beginning with Sophia Abrams and Elliana Lesch’s 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, (7-3) win over Bergen Senf and Maggy Totzke at the No. 1 spot.

Matilda Prentice teammed with Megan Twomey to take a 6-0, 6-2 second doubles win against Makena Rodriguez and Lauren Green, while Zoe Christensen and Sophie Hawiland defeated Libby Totzke and Lauren Davis, 7-5, 6-3, at third doubles.

Joseph went undefeated in the triangular, beating Oriole netter Laura Denchfield, 4-6, 6-3, (10-7), at No. 4 singles. Nemmers won her No. 2 singles match via a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Kaylee McPherson.

Senf and Maggy Totzke took a 6-2, 6-1 win over Rachael Erikson and Jeilena Ngep for the Cardinals’ doubles win against Osseo.

Kanissa Erikson and Jaelon Irmiter beat Rodriguez and Green, 6-4, 3-6, (10-7), and Sydney Musteller and Tina Corniea topped Morgan Cihoski and Holly Petrowiak, 6-4, 4-6, (10-8), at the No. 3 doubles spot.

In singles play, the Orioles’ Jessica Dahl beat Hainy, 6-2, 6-0, while Rachel Zeltimager took a 7-5, 4-6, (11-9) victory over Bass.

Fairmont (0-2) plays Maple River in a dual meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Mapleton.
