No. 1-ranked North Union softball flattens North Iowa

BUFFALO CENTER, Iowa — The Iowa Class 2A, No. 1-ranked North Union Warriors flattened the North Iowa Bison, 14-5, during Top of Iowa Conference softball action on Wednesday night.

Bre Anderson and Maddie Rolling each went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles for the Warriors. Rolling also scored two runs, while Bre Anderson collected two RBIs.

Kate Anderson contributed two hits to the Warriors’ offensive performance, Hope Steinberger scored three runs, while both Kyarsten Mullen and Anna Ingalls scored twice.

Kate Anderson garnered the win, allowing five runs on nine hits with two strikeouts and no walks in three innings of work. Ingalls held the Bison to two hits while striking out three and walking one over four innings.

North Union (16-2) plays in the Fort Dodge Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

North Union 7, Okoboji 3 — The Warriors converted four extra-base hits into a 7-3 non-league victory over the Pioneers on Tuesday night in Okoboji.

Kyarsten Mullen went 2-for-2, including one double, to produce two RBIs to complement two runs scored for the Warriors.

Hope Steinberger also generated two hits and crossed the plate twice for North Union, while teammates Maddie Rolling, Bre Anderson and Rory McClellan each delivered doubles. Rolling and Bre Anderson, along with Kate Anderson, each drove in one run. Kate Anderson singled, while McClellan scored a run.

Anna Ingalls went 1-for-4 with two runs scored to round out the Warriors’ nine-hit offensive performance.

Ingalls allowed three runs — only one earned — on five hits, struck out nine and issued four walks in seven innings pitched to earn the complete-game victory.

Iowa Baseball

St. Edmond 10, North Union 2 — Starting pitcher Jack McEvoy and reliever Jackson Kochendorfer combined to fire a five-hitter to steer the Gaels to a 10-2 nonconference victory over the Warriors on Tuesday night in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

McEvoy allowed one run on two hits, walked six and struck out three in 3 1/3 innings of work. Kochendorfer gave up one run on three hits, struck out two and issued one walk in 3 2/3 innings of relief to net the win.

Connor Allison went 2-for-4, including a double, to drive in a game-best three runs to go with one run scored for the Gaels.

Trent Pedersen topped North Union with two hits and one run scored, Noah Morphew singled home a run, while Jared Larson delivered an RBI and scored a run. Hunter Pierce and Brenden Anderson added hits for the Warriors.

North Union (6-7) travels to Okoboji, Iowa, tonight for another nonconference game.
