Bauer 5th at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa — North Union junior standout Riley Bauer captured fifth place in the high school boys 1,600-meter run at the Drake Relays track & field meet on Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.

Bauer posted a time of 4 minutes, 22.7 seconds in the mile run. Bauer ran a 1:05.28 opening 400 meters, while closing with a 400-meter leg of 1:01.68.

Linn-Mar senior Ryan Murphy edged Cedar Falls senior Sam Schillinger by hundredths of a second for first place in the 1,600-meter run. Both Murphy and Schillinger officially posted times of 4:20.23.

Pirsig signs with Titans

MINNEAPOLIS — Former Blue Earth Area High School standout and former Minnesota Gophers offensive tackle Jonah Pirsig signed with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent on Saturday.

The 6-foot-9, 315-pound Pirsig battled through injuries during the 2016 football season, but still earned third-team all-Big Ten Conference honors.
