FHS track & field to meet today

FAIRMONT — A pre-season meeting for all Fairmont boys and girls in grades 9-12 interested in competing in track & field this spring will take place right after school today in the high school lunch room.

The meeting will last about 30 minutes.

Northrop Baseball holds Shrimp Feed

NORTHROP — Northrop Baseball is holding its Shrimp Feed Registration Night from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Northrop Legion.

The meal includes all-you-can-eat shrimp, a baked potato, coleslaw and bread. A chicken strip dinner option will also be available. Adult meals are $13 and the cost is $6 for children 12 and under.

This will be the final registration night for all Northrop teams.

Squirt ‘A’ 2nd at district tournament

NEW ULM — The TPI Hospitality of Fairmont Squirt A hockey team placed second in the District 4 Tournament in New Ulm.

Fairmont opened the tournament with a 6-5 overtime win against New Ulm/Sleepy Eye. Brock Lutterman scored the game-winning goal and finished with two goals scored. Luke Kester had two goals, Gavin Kester and Connor Gronewald each had one assist and Tyson Pankow had one goal. Ethan Geerdes made 27 saves in the win.

Fairmont then beat Worthington, 9-7. Hank Artz had five goals and two assists, while Luke Kester had two goals and two assists. Brock Lutterman scored one goal with three assists, Jace Teveldal had one goal and Connor Gronewald doled out one assist. Geerdes stopped 21 shots.

Fairmont beat Redwood Falls, 6-5, to reach the championship. Artz had three goals and one assist, and Teveldal had two goals. Gronewald provided two assists, while Lutterman netted one goal to complement two assists. Geerdes recorded 24 saves.

New Ulm/Sleepy Eye edged Fairmont in the championship game, 5-3. Luke Kester, Lutterman and Artz each had one goal while Mathew Cone had one assist. Geerdes totaled 16 saves in the finale.

Fairmont finished with a 22-4-2 record.

Squirt ‘B’ captures 5th place at district

FAIRMONT — The TPI Hospitality Fairmont Squirt ‘B’ hockey team captured the consolation trophy during the weekend district tournament in Sleepy Eye and New Ulm.

The Okoboji Blizzards downed Fairmont, 11-3, in Friday’s opener in Sleepy Eye. Eric Determan scored two goals, Klay Beemer tallied one goal and one assist, while Gage Dahlsten added an assist.

TPI goaltender Tanner Pankow recorded 22 saves on first round of the districts.

Luverne posted a 14-2 second-round win over Fairmont on Saturday in New Ulm. Beemer generated two unassisted goals for Fairmont, while Pankow notched 18 saves.

Pankow tallied six stops as Fairmont shut out Worthington, 9-0, in third-round district action Saturday in New Ulm. Beemer erupted for four goals and one assist, while Determan produced a hat trick and one assist to fuel TPI’s offense.

Kegan Roloff contributed one goal and one helper for Fairmont, Dahlsten scored once, while Barret Scholl distributed two assists.

Roloff tallied two goals and two assists to help propel Fairmont to a 7-1 victory over Worthington in the fifth-place game on Sunday in New Ulm.

Beemer chalked up two goals and an assist, Determan netted two goals, Dustin Thelen scored once and Dominic Lund-May added a helper. Pankow made nine saves to net the win.
