North Union hoopsters sweep North Iowa

ARMSTRONG — The North Union Warriors scorched the Armstrong gymnasium nets on 11-for-22 shooting from 3-point range to pace a 56-37 Top of Iowa Conference basketball victory over the North Iowa Bison on Saturday night.

Nathan Eaton connected on three 3s to generate a game-best 17 points for the Warriors, while Riley Bauer drilled three treys to pace his 13-point effort to go with four steals.

Trent Pedersen contributed eight points and five rebounds to North Union’s win, Elliott Hagebock netted six points and eight rebounds, while Parker Oleson scored six.

The Warriors hit 9 of 31 shots from 2-point range and 6 of 14 at the free throw line.

North Union (6-6) travels to Forest City, Iowa, on Tuesday night.

Truman/Martin Luther/GHEC 74, Heron Lake-Okabena 67 — Zayne Engel and Mason Maloney delivered a pair of double-double performances to lead the Jaguars to a seven-point win over the Wildcats on Saturday in Heron Lake.

Engel made 11 of 13 field goals to trigger a game-high 29 points to complement a game-high 15 boards, while Maloney hit 8 of 9 field goals for 16 points to go with 12 rebounds and four steals.

Derek Shoen neared triple-double territory by scoring eight points, grabbing 10 boards and doling out a co-game-best nine assists for TMLGHEC.

Dylan Martin chipped in eight points, while Garrett Balcom doled out co-game-high nine assists to go with four points.

The Jaguars made 21 of 50 shots from 2-point range, 6 of 21 behind the arc and 7 of 13 at the free throw line.

The Jaguars (7-6, 3-2 Valley) travels to Fulda tonight.

Girls Basketball

North Union 55, North Iowa 39 — Hallie Reese produced a game-high 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds to steer the Iowa Class 2A, No. 15-ranked Warriors to a 16-point Top of Iowa Conference win over the Bison on Saturday night in Armstrong.

Samantha Hagedorn supplied 10 points, seven rebounds and three steals to North Union’s winning effort, while Kate Anderson tallied 10 points and grabbed five boards.

Chloe Lofstrom neared double-double territory by scoring eight points to complement a game-best nine rebounds, while Bre Anderson and Maddie Rolling scored eight points and doled out four assists, respectively.

The Warriors hit 20 of 40 shots from 2-point range, 3 of 16 behind the arc and 6 of 14 at the charity stripe.

North Union (11-1) travels to Forest City, Iowa, on Tuesday night.

Blue Earth Area 61, Medford 25 — Caitlin Rorman and Sidney Blair combined for 29 points to propel the Bucs to a 36-point nonconference victory over the Tigers on Saturday night in Blue Earth.

Rorman tallied a game-high 15 points and grabbed four rebounds, while Sidney Blair collected 14 points to complement five rebounds and three steals. Blair and Rorman paced the Bucs’ 35-25 rebounding edge.

The Bucs made 22 of 43 field goals overall and blistered the nets on 14-for-16 free-throw shooting for 88 percent on the game.

Blue Earth Area (6-8) plays host to Waterville-Elysian-Morristown on Tuesday night.
