BLUE EARTH — The Class A, No. 12-ranked Blue Earth Area Bucs combined four falls with six forfeits to coast to a season-opening 63-11 nonconference dual-meet wrestling victory over the United South Central Rebels on Friday night in Blue Earth.

Davis Sunken recorded the Bucs’ initial fall from the leadoff spot at 106 pounds to stake the home team to a quick 6-0 lead. Sunken pressed Bryce Sonnek to the canvas in 57 seconds.

Ahead 12-11, Dalton Nagel received a forfeit at 138 pounds and six points for Blue Earth Area to trigger an avalanche of 51 points via nine consecutive decisions to put the meet in the win column.

Cole Klinkner, the No. 6-ranked 145-pounder in Class A, produced a 9-4 decision over the Rebels’ Keenan Biddle at his weight class, while Bucs’ teammate Zach Buseman followed with a fall in 3:36 over Hunter Johnson at 152. Buseman holds the No. 4 spot at that weight in Class A.

Roger Ziegler generated six more Blue Earth Area points by pressing Levi Thisius to the mat for a fall in 4:49 at 160.

Wyatt Tungland (170), Jesus Quintero (182), Jared Armon (195) and Jordan Huse (220) each received consecutive forfeits from USC. Armon is ranked No. 4 at 220 pounds.

Bucs’ heavyweight Trevor Oppedal then used his 6-foot-7 frame to earn a fall in 1:11 over the Rebels’ Ethan Morales.

Caden Ochsendorf received a forfeit at 120 for the Bucs.

USC’s Blake Legred, who’s ranked No. 6 at 106 pounds in Class A, posted a 12-0 major decision over Max Ehrich at 113.

Micah Hamson and Gavin Sonnek contributed wins for the Rebels at 126 and 132, respectively. Hamson earned an 11-6 decison over Koby Nagel, while Sonnek claimed a 9-1 major decision over Jaxen Klinkner at 132.

Blue Earth Area (1-0) plays host to the Maher Invitational at 10 a.m. today in Blue Earth.

USC, Fairmont/Martin County West and Madelia/Truman/Martin Luther will join the host Bucs in the tournament.
