Warriors flatten WBM in opener

ARMSTRONG – Junior forward Hallie Reese neared double-double territory to help guide the North Union Warriors to a season-opening 67-24 rout over the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines during Iowa prep basketball action Tuesday night in Armstrong.

Reese connected on 6 of 9 free throws to help pace her game-high 16-point performance to go with her co-game-best eight rebounds.

Chloe Lofstrom also neared double-double territory by grabbing a co-game-high eight boards to complement 12 points for the Warriors.

Samantha Hagedorn delivered 13 points to go with four rebounds and a game-leading five steals for North Union, while teammate Bre Anderson made 5 of 10 field goals, including 2 of 5 from 3-point range, to pace her 12-point effort. Bre Anderson also distributed a game-best five assists to complement four rebounds and three steals.

Alexis Valvick contributed six points and three steals to the Warriors’ winning ways, while Kate Anderson chipped in four assists and three steals.

North Union erupted for 27 first-quarter points to garner a 22-point lead and never looked back.

The Warriors connected on 25 of 62 field goals, including 21 of 41 from 2-point range, and sank 13 of 18 free throws on the season-opener.

North Union (1-0) travels to Buffalo Center Friday, Dec. 2, to face North Iowa in a Top of Iowa Conference game.
