St. Peter downs Fairmont; Panthers claw Warriors

ST. PETER – The No. 2-seeded St. Peter Saints rallied from an opening-game loss to down the No. 7-seeded Fairmont Cardinals, 25-27, 25-17, 25-7, 25-19, during Section 2AA, South Sub-Section quarterfinal volleyball action Thursday night in St. Peter.

St. Peter (19-7) advances to face No. 3-seeded Blue Earth Area (19-10) in a 7:45 p.m. sub-section semifinal match Tuesday night at Mankato East.

Fairmont ended its season with a 9-15 record.

Courtney Williams produced 11 kills, three blocks and six digs to pace the Cardinals, while Bailee Swanson supplied eight kills, six digs and two solo blocks.

Madison Hennager distributed 10 set assists to complement three service aces for Fairmont, Taylor Crissinger doled out a team-best 13 set assists to go with two kills, while Ericka Kim made five digs.

Brenna Cutler generated three kills for Fairmont, Alli Lardy smacked down five kills, while Mallory Mosloski added two blocks.

Iowa Playoffs

Central Springs 3, North Union 0 – The Iowa Class 2A, No. 13-ranked Panthers outdueled the Warriors in the extra-length opening game before completing the three-game sweep during postseason play on Thursday night in Manly, Iowa.

Central Springs defeated North Union in the regional semifinal clash, 28-26, 25-15, 25-13.

Central Springs (22-6) advances to face No. 1-ranked Hull Western Christian for the Iowa Class 2A, Region 3 championship at 7 p.m. Tuesday night in Emmetsburg, Iowa.

Hull Western Christian gained the regional finals by sweeping three games from Boyden-Hull, 25-13, 25-6, 25-16.

North Union ended its season with an 18-13 record.

No individual or team statistics were reported.
