BEA-LCWM suspended; Jags, Mavs exit

BLUE EARTH – The No. 4-seeded Blue Earth Area Bucs led the No. 5-seeded Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial Knights 6-0 with 2:12 remaining in the first quarter of Tuesday’s sectional football clash when the game was suspended due to inclement weather.

Blue Earth Area (5-3) and LCWM (3-5) will complete the remainder of their Section 2AA quarterfinal game starting at 7 p.m. tonight at Wilson Field in Blue Earth.

The winner between the Bucs and Knights faces No. 1-seeded Maple River (7-2) in a 7 p.m. semifinal Saturday night in Mapleton. The Eagles shut out No. 8-seeded Le Sueur-Henderson, 26-0.

Running back Zach Buseman scored Blue Earth Area’s touchdown on a 2-yard run at the 7:05 juncture in the opening quarter Tuesday night.

Section 3AA

Yellow Medicine East 27, Martin County West 0 – The No. 2-seeded Sting shut out the No. 7-seeded Mavericks during sectional quarterfinal action Tuesday night in Granite Falls.

YME (6-3) plays host to No. 3-seeded Lakeview (7-2) in a 3 p.m. sectional semifinal Saturday back in Granite Falls. Lakeview dispatched No. 6-seeded St. James Area (1-8), 56-14.

Martin County West ended its season with an 0-9 record.

No individual or team statistics were reported.

Section 3, 9-Man

Hills-Beaver Creek 54, Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman 6 – The No. 2-seeded Patriots built a 48-0 halftime lead en route to the sectional quarterfinal victory over the No. 7-seeded Jaguars on Tuesday night in Hills.

Hills-Beaver Creek (7-2) will play host to the winner between No. 3-seeded Mountain Lake Area (5-3) and No. 6-seeded Westbrook-Walnut Grove (3-5) at 3 p.m. Saturday in a sectional semifinal back in Hills.

The Wolverines-Chargers’ game in Mountain Lake on Tuesday night was postponed due to inclement weather, and will kick off at 5 p.m. today on the Wolverines’ home turf.

Mitchell Scheff recovered a fumble to set up the Jaguars’ only touchdown – Scheff’s own 5-yard run – with 10:04 remaining in the third quarter.

Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman ended its season with a 2-7 record.

Section 3AAA

Sibley East 19, Worthington 0 – The No. 5-seeded Wolverines upended the No. 4-seeded Trojans, 19-0, during sectional quarterfinal action Tuesday night in Worthington.

Sibley East (4-5) advances to face Class AAA No. 2-ranked and top-seeded Jackson County Central (8-0) in a 3 p.m. sectional semifinal Saturday at Swearingen Field in Jackson. The Huskies earned a first-round bye.

Worthington ended its season with a 4-5 record.

Luverne 42, St. Peter 20 – The No. 3-seeded Cardinals rolled to a 22-point quarterfinal triumph over the No. 6-seeded Saints on Tuesday night in Luverne.

Luverne (6-3) advances to face Class AAA No. 8-ranked and No. 2-seeded Fairmont (6-2) in a 3 p.m. sectional semifinal clash Saturday at Mahoney Field in Fairmont. Fairmont earned an opening-round bye.

St. Peter ended its season with a 1-8 record.
