B.E. Area rallies by Pipestone

PIPESTONE – The Blue Earth Area Bucs pulled off the come-from-behind victory over the Pipestone Area Arrows, 26-21, during South Central White District football action Wednesday night.

Trailing 21-20, running back Zach Buseman scored on a 12-yard run with 5:46 left in regulation to give the Bucs the regular-season win.

Dylan McCormick struck first for the Arrows with a 9-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter. Mohammad Hassan nailed the PAT for a 7-0 lead.

The Bucs answered with an 8-yard passing TD from Logan Jahnke to Jacob Vaske. Caelan Sanders’ PAT tied the game with 7:47 left in the opening quarter.

But the Arrow regained the lead to end the quarter. McCormick dashed 54 yards down the field for a score, followed by Hassan’s extra-point kick.

Jahnke threw a 9-yard TD to Blake Barnett at the 5:31 mark in the second quarter and Caelan Sanders tied the game again with the PAT.

With 1:55 to go in the first half, Cody Thompson connected with Tyse Woelber on a 15-yard scoring pass. Hassan added the PAT as the Arrows went into halftime with a 21-14 advantage.

Jahnke, who went 13-for-18 with 180 passing yards and three TDs, inched the Bucs within one after finding Barnett in the end zone for a 9-yard TD with 5:08 to go in the third quarter.

The Bucs’ defense shut out the Arrows in the second half, and the offense capitalized on Buseman’s game-winning TD run with 5:46 remaining in the game.

Buseman tallied 21 carries for 55 yards, and Jahnke added 59 rushing yards on 15 totes.

Barnett caught four passes for 29 yards, while Chris Sanders had 65 yards on two receptions. Kaylan Legred added two catches for 42 yards and Jacob Vaske had 38 yards with three receptions.

Thompson completed 6 of 11 passes to end the game with 43 yards and one TD. Tyse Woelber caught two of Thompson’s passes for 34 yards. McCormick ran 10 times for 135 yards rushing, while Garret Ploeger totaled 27 yards on nine carries.

Blue Earth Area (5-3) received the No. 4 seed and hosts No. 5-seeded Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial in the Section 2AA quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Blue Earth.

Pipestone Area finished the regular season with a 3-5 record. The No. 4 seed in Section 3AA hosts No. 5-seeded Windom Area on Tuesday in Pipestone.
