Jaguars post 1-3 mark at tourney

MAPLETON – The Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman Jaguars volleyball lineup generated a 1-3 mark during closely-contested matches at the Maple River Showcase on Saturday in Mapleton.

The showcase consisted of four rounds of three-game matches, with no champion crowned.

Host Maple River posted a 25-21, 25-14, 7-15 opening-round win over the Jaguars before the Jaguars bounced back to claim a 25-23, 21-25, 15-8 second-round triumph over Hendricks.

Rochester Lourdes defeated the Jaguars in third-round play, 25-23, 25-22, 15-12, before Cleveland edged the Jaguars in the final round, 25-21, 12-25, 15-9.

Setter Hannah Johanson distributed a team-leading 73 assists during the 12-game span for the Jaguars. Johanson also made 28 digs and spiked out six kills.

Middle hitter Kenlie Pytleski paced the Jaguars’ offensive performance by pounding out 31 kills, while teammate Emma Becker contributed 15 kills to the statistical charts.

Courtney Zaharia delivered a dozen kills for Martin Luther/ GHEC/Truman during the showcase, Alexis Brummond made 63 digs, while Marissa Steinhaus collected 64 digs, hammered eight kills and served up five aces.

Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman (5-6-1) plays host to United South Central at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night in Northrop.
