CER announces upcoming activities
Community Education and Recreation (CER) will hold three class activities next week. First, there will be a Great Reactions class where Science Explorers will discover the fascinating world of chemistry from 9:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday in FES, room 102 at Fairmont Elementary School, 714 Victoria St., Fairmont. (Wear clothes that can get dirty). The fee for the class will be $24 with a CER pass, $27 without a pass. Next, a Myth Busting 101 class where Science Explorers will bust strange myths and wacky urban legends will be held 1-3:30 p.m. Wednesday in room 102 at Fairmont Elementary School. The fee will be $24 with a CER pass, $27 without a pass. Lastly, an Illustrated Journal for Adults two-day workshop will be held 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the Red Rock center for the Arts, 222 E. Blue Earth Ave., Fairmont. The class will be taught by July Artist-of-the-month, Anita Plunker. Students will learn to record and document feelings, emotions and the world around us by using different medias to create a journal. The fee is $75 per session. Supply list available upon registration. A maximum of 20 students is allowed. Please pre-register as soon as possible. Pre-registration with payment is requested at Fairmont Community Education and Recreation located at Fairmont Elementary School. Class of 1955 to meet
Fairmont High School class of 1955 and spouses will meet 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Holiday Inn, Fairmont.
Red Rock to hold artist open house
A meet-and-greet open house for featured artist of the month, Anita Plunker, will be held 4-6 p.m. Wednesday at the Red Rock Center for the Arts in Fairmont. You will be to see Anita's art display as well as visit and meet her. Refreshments will be available. This event is free of charge and open to the public.
Thimble Club plans Wednesday meeting
Rose Lake Thimble Club will meet 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Pizza Ranch, Fairmont.
"Spoon Man" to perform
Come and enjoy watching Jim Cruise, the "Spoon Man," a professional spoon player who will share his music and humor in a family-friendly program. The event will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at the Fairmont Library, and 3 p.m. Thursday at the Sherburn Theater. The program is free and open to the public. The following area students recently graduated and were awarded degrees during a commencement ceremony held May 15, 2014, at Rochester Community and Technical College in Rochester: Blue Earth - Eric Purvis, diploma in occupational skills; Fairmont - Heidi Pasion, associate's degree in administrative assistant; Good Thunder - Ross Winters, associate's degree in sport/athletic field management.
